I think the quality of the undergraduate education here is phenomenal. there really is no way to accurately describe it. The professors are, for the most part, extremely approachable and easy to talk to, always willing to give advice. The TA's are also usually pretty good and easy to talk to. Office hours are usually pretty useful, especially if only about half a dozen or so students are going because then you get some face time with the professor that you may not otherwise have. I tend to go if I have time.

to asterstar:
the level of competitiveness that you will experience at yale is completely dependent on you. if you want to be competitive, there will always be people there to compete with you. if you don't, then you will find that a lot of people are really pretty relaxed and easy going. There will be some classes where there will more competitive tension, but for the most part, i personally find that most yalies are pretty chill.

wow you guys have me so stoked!!
i have a few questions...

first of all, what is directed studies (suicide) like? if i want to have any kind of extracurricular life, should i do it?

my second one is really specific, because i'm kind of lost. both my parents were in TD, and i grew up in new haven, so I spend a good bit of time at TD and i've been hearing about it my whole life. I'm trying to decide if I want to be in TD or just get thrown into the res college pool, but I'm worried that if I do that, I'll spend 4 years wishing I had decided to be in TD. Also, basically the only reason I would do that would be to spend freshman year on Old Campus, which I'm not sure is worth it anyway. Another factor! I'm deferring to class of '10, so none of the people i know who are going now would be on old campus anyway. I feel like it might not be worth it.
