Yale Summer Session

Is anyone here planning on going to the Yale Summer Session (summer school program)? Does anyone even recommend it?

i did yss last summer and i really liked it for the most part. u get a lot of freedom and the people are great. it doesn't really help u get into yale that much tho as most people i know from it didn't get in. but it probably looks really good for other colleges, especially if u do well in the courses.

I'm planning on going to Yale this summer. If I get a scholarship. It looks awesome.

I'll be attending Session B this summer and taking intro to philosophy and intro to political philosophy.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost, just a round number. The reason I'm asking is because I want to know what the difference is about between Yales summer program and Harvards summer program. I know th approximate price of Harvards summer program is around $10,000 for the 8 week, and it's around $6,000 for the 4 week. Thanks.

Yeah like bpk1, I want to take a few courses there during the summer too but geezzzz it's too exspensive!!

Are there any scholarships or financial aid available?

I don't believe there are any scholarships. There is financial aid, but it covers only half of the tuition, and it's available only if you can show that you need to take that class during summer school (e.g. you don't have enough credits, it's required for your major, etc.).

I attened the summer session last summer and it was the greatest 5 weeks. It was around $6000 and I don't think that they have any financial aid or scholarships for high school students. It won't help you get into Yale, but I would recomend attending, it was a lot of fun.

Actually, I believe Harvard's SSP program is $8,000 for the 8-week and $2,200 for the 4-week, last time I checked....

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

The cost of room, board, and food at Harvard for the 8-week is $8,000 plus I approximately $2,000 for other expenses. I have found that out from peoplewho have attended it. Another thing you said which makes no sense, is that the 4-week program is around 1/4 th the cost of the 8-week. If your correct about the 4-week program, than the 8 week program should cost around $5,000 not $8,000. I don't know where you got your numbers from, though.

Fun shouldn't be measured by $$$$ lol...

Got my numbers here: http://ssp.harvard.edu/2006/admission/tuition.jsp

But I think I overlooked the Room and Board cost which is about $3,000. Dang. I wonder why they don't provide financial aid?!

4-unit course: $2200
Health Insurance: $110
On campus housing for short session I or II: $1965
Housing Prepayment: $410
Total: $4,685!!!!!!:(:(

Prestige doesn't come cheap.

And you can't even really count it as "prestige" since it won't immensely improve your admission into a college. :/

www.fastweb.com has tons of Scholarships which can be used for anything pertaining to your education. Including Yale SUmmer Session

High school students are required to take 2 courses so add another $2200 to the amount. Yale Summer Session is worth the cost, you learn a lot and you meet some great people.

yeah i wanna go if it boosts my chance for Yale ;)

fo shizzle ma bizzle !

I went to YSS last summer, I took comprehensive general chemistry and intro to stats. If anyone need any advice, I could help out :)!!
YSS doesnt help you get into Yale or any Ivy, it does work for mid-level schools though. Hmm it helps you get ahead! think of it as a quick AP, or an easy way to get that credit to cover a core requirement.

You could do have an oncampus interview, If you might apply for admissions later that fall
