Does anyone know when these will be posted on the common app? Is something wrong with my browser?
Also, if anyone applied last year or has info on what the questions are like, can you give me some info? I want to get a head start.
THANK YOU

http://admissions.yale.edu/instructions#topic and “Why Yale”
I’m tired, and when I get tired I am snarky. Forgive me, but Yale is looking for people who will spend the 5 seconds or less it takes to Google their question. Be resourceful.
I’m sorry but I am going to respond with snark. I’m not an idiot. There’s more than JUST the essay question, which I found ages ago. On the common app, there’s a section under every college in “My Colleges” that has questions. The website states these are unavailable. I know for a fact that it’s more than just an essay prompt, because that’s how it is for every other school whose questions are available. I’m just wondering when they become available and more detail on what they’re like.
If you’re going to be snarky, don’t make assumptions. You just look rude.
@yaledreamer97 they’ll be available when yhey’re available. If you look around at past threads, you’ll see that they’re short takes; I’m sure you don’t need the next four months to prepare them. Also … maybe don’t snap :-/ there was no need to be rude to anyone. You could have just as easily said “Oh, sorry for the miscommunication; I meant the other questions that all the colleges have on their common app “questions” tab. I have actually looked into it” or something … there’s no need to be rude :-/
@yaledreamer97, if you had read the link that I provided, you’d have seen that Yale indicated by September 1st.
@yaledreamer97, there is nothing wrong with your browser (and @IxnayBob’s link shows the date). You also asked for input from anyone who’d applied last year, which I did. The Yale supplement last year consisted of the standard “Why Yale?” question, four very short-answer questions (about your intellectual curiosity, dealing with disappointment, living with others, areas you’d like to improve/do better), and the longest essay was to share something more about yourself.
I will be attending Yale starting in a few more weeks, and looking back, I must say that Yale’s application was quite reasonable, no big surprises and way better than some others (like Princeton’s, UGH). Good luck!
Thank you @cttwenty15 ! I apologize @IxnayBob I read that link before it was updated. I should not have escalated that - I do not like snarky responses, but that’s why I should not have replied with that myself.
@mytosies you’re right. I was frustrated with the snarky response I had received, but I should not have been rude myself.
I’m not tired now, and all’s well that ends well, so I have no inclination to be snarky. My son remembers the short answer questions as being easy to answer, as long as you didn’t overthink them (eg, “if you had a free afternoon with no obligations, what would you do?”).
Good luck.
@IxnayBob Thank you for the help.
The parents on this forum may be snarky at times but you may want to go back through their posts and see the wealth of knowledge and insights you will find, especially about applying to Yale. Some of us are alumni and have children currently there. So we may snark, but maybe we are toughening you up for what’s coming ahead during this application process. Good luck and don’t hesitate to come back if you have more questions.
PS Mr. IxnayBob’s bark is worse than his bite!!
@Tperry1982 Thank you for the tips! Yeah, I think I approached this with the wrong attitude. I’m really grateful for the amount of help people are willing to offer.
