How important are the short takes? I ask because I am unsure if Yale just looks at it as if it were a window into our personalities or whether it is used to gauge whether someone gets in or rejected. Thanks!

Also, how bad would it be if my essay were 1.5 pages long, single spaced. About 820 words. Thank yoU!

I would imagine that the short takes don't have too much of an impact on the decision. Just be honest and do what they ask you to do: answer the question in less than 25 words.

Is that your essay for the Common App or the Supplement? Yale has stated that they frown on essays that ignore their 500-word request, as far as the supplement is concerned.

I was wondering the same thing about those tiny short answer questions that Yale has in their supplement. They're kind of cute actually! But yeah, I'm sure they're not the main thing they focus on.

the short takes are where the admission officers look for your personality to pop out. I mean think about it: the Yale applicants are generally incredibly well qualified stat-wise, the short takes are like quick snapshots of what the applicant is really all about. For such a selective school like Yale, I’m pretty sure the short takes go a long way.
