What do you all think?

If the State Department approved his visa, as reported, he was likely working for the CIA. If Dean Shaw "rode roughshod" over the process to get him admitted, it is probably because he was directed to.

I think if I had a kid who hadn't gotten into Yale last year I would be furious. And if I had a daughter at Yale now I would hope she didnh't run across this young man since the Taliban treatment of women makes the Duke lacrosse team sound almost benign.

A Yale official tells me that President Richard Levin's office has taken control of the final decision on Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi from the admissions office.

Levin's decision will tell us whether Shaw's decision was "directed" or not. Pres Levin is a conservative and good friend of Pres Bush, with many connections in Washington. You can believe that if this man is admitted as a regular student, it's not just Yale admissions's decision.
There is no way a former Taliban member would be attending Yale in any fashion without our government very aware of it. There is more here than meets the eye.
