I know Yale has a pretty good reputation for theater, but how difficult (or not) is it to do theater there if you're not majoring in it? How many troupes are there and which are the most highly regarded? How selective is it?

the theatre scene at yale is amazing. i am not a theatre person...i am not a theatre major, ive only worked on a few shows, but every experience i have in theatre i really enjoy. the best shows are sudler productions, usually smaller and simpler productions that utilize residential college money to put on free shows. there is also the dramat, the big undergrad organization that puts on a few big shows a year. there are others too...the shakespeare company, the yale undergraduate musical theatre company, the gilbert and sullivan society, a few more...all in all theyre all pretty porous and not too hard to get involved...but it really depends on the show you want to work on. obviously the big dramat commencement musical is going to be pretty selective on who they choose for their director and lead roles, etc., but they always need a zillion crew members and backup singers and stuff. and smaller shows are usually fine getting people with little/no experience playing larger roles or bigger tech parts...it all depends on what youre looking for. its really all here.

anyway, i guess my enthusiasm springs from the fact that i just closed a fantastic sudler show in which i played a great, meaty role...and i havent acted since high school. its totally possible if you want to get involved.
