I am planning to apply to Yale University to transfer on Fall 2012.
As you may be aware, in common application there is a "why do you want to transfer and what object do you want to achieve" essay. I usually wrote something general here if
university's supplemental ask same question, "why do you want to trasnfer to our school?".

Yale is one of them. Yale asks specificially in Supplemental, "why yale?"
However, they give me such a little space (500 characters(not words)), I was not sure if
it would be wiser to customize my common application "reason for transfer" essay to
Yale University.

Yes, if you don’t have enough space in the supplemental essay, create an alternate version of the CA and use the main transfer essay to include other information about why Y works for you.

Thank you sir!
Do you think I should try not to repeat myself in that 500 character supplemental and
CA transfer essay? (I mean obviously I would not repeat word for word but
should I reserve writing some things on CA transfer essay to save it for 500 character supplementals?)

I don’t know, I typically always leave the common application one essay–many schools specifically say to (Harvard). For Yale, I have a VERY specific reason why I want to attend, and I still put it in my 500 word essay.

I haven’t seen any schools that request that the CA main essay be the same as for other schools, I’ve only seen the CA make that statement; so I’d be very interested in a link to where H states that and would relate it to members on the Transfer Students forum. Thanks!
