Yale Transfer - Eli Whitney Program Fall 2023

Had my interview today, no gotcha questions. They seemed genuinely curious and it was more conversation like. Good luck to everyone.

Just finished my AO interview. Phew!
I went very smoothly, but my heart is still pounding.

Now we just play the waiting game.

Yes! From here it’s just a matter of waiting. I believe the decisions will be released May 19th.

**I got rejected. I thought I wrote a pretty great essay. I discussed how Yale’s liberal arts education can help further my career, as well as my environmentalism when it comes to interests and extracurriculars. I did submit the Standout Interview. However, the system was not clear that once recording starts, it automatically submits. There is no do-over. I contacted Yale about this and mysteriously said “They can not reset the system” for that one question. I decided to write to the admission committee the reason behind this technical mishap, and I am happy to discuss any questions if they are interested to get to know me more. I did everything I possibly could to showcase my skills and abilities to the committee. I also went out of my way to explain my academic circumstances as a non-traditional student. But alas, I got my rejection on 04/21. I was confused when I saw the status update since I thought the decision will come out by 05/20. But I guess in this case, no later than 05/20. I got rejected just a few days after the StandOut Interview due date. I thought by then, they made all their decisions as to whom they accepted or rejected. But clearly, they are simply trimming the fat in their applicant pool. “Me” “Being the fat” in this case. I was actually a bit surprised since I thought I fit perfectly for this program but the acceptance is not as slim as other ivies. Good luck to everyone else awaiting an acceptance or an AO interview.

Anyone else nervously watching their FedEx alerts?

I got admitted to Columbia GS today.
Where do you see the financial aid package?
That’s my determining factor to accept the school or not. Please let me know where you see that. Thanks.

Not yet. Is it time?

Nah not for us, probably around the 17th it’d be worth checking.

The financial aid package will appear as an update status and when you log into your student portal you’ll see a new update for financial aid.

I will forewarn you by saying that Columbia GS does not award generous amount of aid like other ivys that cover 100% of financial need. GS has a different endowment than Columbia college and therefore limited resources. I was awarded 40% in institutional aid and I was told by other students that it was “a fair amount”. Needless to say I’m not attending Columbia anymore due to this, living in NYC is no joke, even more so as a broke student!

The whole FedEx deal takes the fun out of getting rejected lol

Thanks for the heads up. I will wait until I get the financial aid to decide.

What’s coming through FedEx??

Admits should see a package coming from New Haven. By signing up for FedEx alerts, you’ll see that there is a package on its way to you. Usually scheduled for the day after decisions.

Hi :grinning:

Ohhh! Does that mean we could potentially find out before the 18th when the status is updated on our online application?
