You can never get in if you don’t apply! Good luck everyone!

thanks guys! this wait is just terrible… 5ish weeks left at least? are you guys finding it hard to focus in class?

@mjg678 extremely difficult, but the email from Yale about admission materials just made it a little bit easier

Nice to have some feedback with the email, agreed. But the subject line really shouldn’t have “Missing Items” in it if you’re not missing items…

I was scared I would have to resubmit something when I saw that email.

I have to resubmit my secondary school report! UGH! How did you all send that in?

I sent it and the transcript separately, and I am wondering if that is why they are making me resubmit it.

Any advice? I only have a week to get it to them so I need to make sure it is sent the way they need it.

Hi rac1891,

I apologize because this might seem a bit pedagogical, but just in case it helps to read the entire outline: call your high school and see if they can send it through Naviance/electronically. It might just be easier to go in and ask to get a physical copy. Bring cash since I think most high schools charge a fee. They’ll either print it out for you right then or ask you to come back for it. Then stick it in an envelope with a 45 cent/first class stamp and have it postmarked asap.

I don’t think there’s anything special you have to do. It probably just got lost somewhere.

Woops, just realized I mixed up transcript and secondary school report. You should call your guidance counselor. Counselors normally keep a copy. If s/he doesn’t, ask if you can come in with a new report to fill out and pick it up the next day to be mailed.

So did you all send your HS transcripts and secondary school reports separately? It asks for them together…I hope it did just get lost somewhere! If UChicago emails me and says it is missing too, then I know something is wrong with it…

I got another copy of the secondary school report from my counselor…but now I am concerned because it is not in a sealed envelope with school letterhead. I will just have to send it as it is I suppose…what else can I do!

Basically, through this whole process I have felt like my HS counselor was super resistant to helping me, so I feel lost! It was almost like she has never done this for anyone before, which I know can not be the case!

I just hope I did not waste all my time on this application process…

Ah! I’m sure it will be okay. If Yale receives it and has any suspicions, I think it would be reasonable for them to call your counselor to confirm the information. I don’t think you have to worry too much. Have you sent it in already? If not and you’re still really worried, maybe you can go back to your high school and ask someone at records or anyone else in the office to get your envelope stamped/sealed. There must be someone who will be helpful.

I don’t think you need to worry about having sent the two items separately; so long as you get what’s missing in asap.

I’m sure your application would not be taken for nothing! Once this missing bit is out, all that is left is to relax until decisions come out. Good luck!

Thank you for the help everyone, I hope it works out as you all think it will!

I will be sending them both in on Monday…! Will they let me know when they get them so I can stop worrying?

I’m not sure if they contact you to confirm receipt. If you’re worried, you should call the admissions office and check in maybe a week after you mail it out. You could also have the envelope “certified” at the post office for $3 more, which will give you proof of mailing as well as proof of when it was delivered.

Also, check at the mailing lobby how many stamps you’ll need to put on the envelope, or simply stick two forever stamps on to be safe (two stamps should be more than enough.)

If you put two stamps on the envelope and mail it off Monday, it should get in by Wednesday.

Hope that helps!

I also got the email about the missing documents. They claim that they don’t have my Secondary School Report or my High School transcript, which is weird because I mailed them through Fedex and have a confirmation number that guarantees that Yale received them and I also know that all of my other schools received the documents well.

I guess they lost them maybe, so I’m trying to get a copy of both documents but my counselor lives in Mexico (which is where I’m from) and I haven’t been able to contact him because it’s spring break there. What do I do? I doubt he has a copy and I’m starting to get worried about what will happen if Yale does not receive my documents on time. I sent an email explaining all of these things but they didn’t respond and I called today too, but I think the office is closed…

What should I do?

Oh no, that does sound like a difficult situation. Try calling them again later today or tomorrow to follow up on your e-mail. It might be that it was a mistake in filing, and that they’ll be able to find your documents.

Have you tried e-mailing your counselor yet and expressing the urgency? There’s a chance he’ll check his e-mail over spring break. I definitely think a phone call to Yale is necessary, and hopefully the Yale admissions team can give you options (a reasonable extension that is still convenient for them, having your counselor fax the files over once he responds, etc.)

anybody else trying not to fall in love with Yale because of the impending rejection that is likely to come?

@YalieGirl Funnily enough that’s exactly what Yale said was missing for me as well; and I know that all the other schools I’ve applied to have received those. Who knows? I’m sure they get so much stuff that it’s super easy for stuff to get lost.

@MJG678 So much. I’ve been torturing myself just looking at pictures and what people say about each residential college and thinking how I like this aspect of Saybrook better than Branford and this thing about Pierson seems neater than…You get the drift. Just a month and four days left…Way too long.

@YalieGirl @JamesonFremont I am in the exact same situation, and I also know for sure that they arrived to Yale so I do not know what happened between then and now! Every other school received them just fine as far as I know. I am concerned. It makes me wonder if they did indeed arrive but something was not the way they wanted it…who knows. I have also emailed them with no response (twice!).

Also, did everyone else’s emails say “Additional Official College Transcript(s) if applicable” for missing items?

yes; I believe it said to ignore that if it doesn’t apply to you
