Yale Undergraduate Admissions Interested in Drama

What's the, shall I say trick for getting into Yale to study theatre? I heard that the Yale graduate school for drama is top-notch, whereas the undergraduate program is fairly new and very comme-ci, comme-ca. Is this true? And does it make it easier to get in versus a school like NYU or Julliard? Is it even worth applying for or should I just wait until I am eligible to attend graduate school.

Why would you go to Yale for drama?

Because its a great school! I would be able to focus on both my academics and my art. Plus the school has turned out some of Hollywoods top actors - Meryl Streep, Sanaa Lathan, Paul Newman and so much more! Why wouldn’t I?

Undergrads interested in the Theatre major must audition the Sophomore year. For now, you must be admitted into yale college and all the rigors that entails. I don’t know the admit stats to NYU or Julliard theater undergrad but Yale college is … well, very low.

Yale and New Haven are simply fabulous for theater. Yale college theater majors receive a lot just by their proximity to the many draws into New Haven.

Thank you T26E4!

BTW: lots of people end up in theater/acting even without the Theater studies major. The most famous actor from my graduating year wasn’t a theater major, Paul Giamatti.
