Yale University Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

I know many people got that same email with a Yale ID, myself included, and I’m pretty sure it was sent at the same time too. I’m a little hesitant to say that it’s a positive sign because of that. However, not to sound too braggy, I feel like I’m a competitive applicant (not sure about the others). I also have not received an invite for an interview.

I think that the safest assumptions for now are:

  1. SIDs are used by the actual students at Yale. Every form that you could fine (be it housing, major declarations etc.) asks for the SID.
  2. It’s absolutely not a guarantee of admission. We know of several rejections.
  3. People who do receive SID seem to be admitted unproportionally. Again, could be a self-selection due to the fact that only really invested and over-analytical people would discuss it on threads like this one.
  4. If SID is assigned to every single applicant then why not just put it out in the open on portal in the financial aid section? FinAid seems to use it for the ease of communication anyway. Why not make it even easier? My view is that it’s reserved for the applicants who at the very least have gotten through the initial screening process, and FA starts making packages for them. Which leads me to the next assumption.
  5. Early Action pool, being generally stronger and smaller than RD’s, perhaps has most of the applications with the SIDs assigned.
    Other than that, it’s astrology.

Oh yes he did get that. Really not going to put much into it. Just a couple weeks will confirm either way.

I was an RD applicant who received SID and got rejected last year. My application was extremely bad and I don’t think I got through the initial review process.
Moreover, last year during RD season, my friend called the finaid office and asked about SID and they told her that SID is assigned to everyone.

It will be ecstatic if your theory is true, but after all, it means nothing. It will be very painful if you get happy because of SID and get rejected.

You must be right then. This whole theory is really based on the lack of information and hearsay throughout the years. It would be great to put it to rest for the sake of our mental health and future applicants’.

It has been disproven each and every application cycle. However, every year there is a brand new group of seniors who insist the data is wrong and that somebody needs to reanalyze the data.

You really don’t know anything unless you hear it from the admissions office. Any theory can be right but it will do nothing but hurt your mental health if it’s wrong, which is most of the case.
Everyone, you’ve done incredible work, you did your best. Let them do their work.

You’ll eventually know on the decision day.

Hi everyone. I am just a little confused about this SID thing. Why would the admissions reach out to the financial aid, and give me an ID, if I was supposedly “denied.” Why even waste their time if I was outright denied? I thought Yale was need blind as well? Someone please help me understand this!

Financial Aid is working up offers before Admissions makes decisions. You can therefore be neither admitted nor denied but simply in the process.

so ur either admitted or deferred? what does this mean?

What I’ve see last year is that many students who received one got in, almost everyone. I am just confused as to why the admissions office would go out of their way to reach out to financial aid to perform an “analysis” on my financial circumstance. Just doesn’t make sense why Yale would waste their time on people who are going to get denied anyways. There must be some sort of correlation.

I KNOWWWW but so many people recieved this email! It’s on reddit, discord, everywhere. So many people got it that I don’t believe its a sign at all.

Really? How many do you think? Do you think you’re a strong applicant?

So many people I know that applied ea got the sid that i doubt it means anything. IDK in terms of numbers. I think im an interesting applicant, given my background and what i talked about in my essays but idk what to think haha i never got an interview.

Me either. Just seems like why would they even bother telling financial aid if someone was not a strong applicant

Honestly I don’t think it means anything. It’s too early for any decisions to be made… just doesn’t make sense in my opinion. I just think that they possibly CANT calculate a financial aid package for every student that applies. It’s not practical

These theories have been floating around for years. What makes the most logical sense to me is that if there was glitch that gave people knowledge well ahead of time, they would have corrected it by now. One thing I appreciate about Yale is that they are very open and forthcoming. I guess someone should ask this question for the next mailbag podcast, so it can be laid to rest for future applicants sanity.

Why would you waste your valuable time looking for a sign of acceptance?

True. The committee haven’t even started meeting yet.
