<p>I’m no college expert but it seems like you should invest in having some kind of “hook,” you know, something special about you. You’re academics are great in a general sense, but when applying to schools like Yale, they’ll be average, maybe even a little sub-par. Thankfully you’ve got some time to develop that specialty; pick something you love and just go for it! Just try your best; nothing’s definite. Good luck!</p>
<p>Why aren’t you taking math in school? 2 online courses after taking algebra 1 as a sophomore may look dubious if you don’t have a good explanation.</p>
<p>I’m not taking math in school because my Algebra I part I course that I took freshman year counted as an elective credit. The regular algebra I course that I’m taking now as a sophomore is my first high school math credit so to get the at least 4 minimum that I need to graduate I’ll need to take a course online or over the summer. In my case i’m taking two of those so I can have taken Calculus by the time I graduate.</p>
<p>I’m taking all the EC’s that my school offers, but I think I agree with you. Looking at my resume right now to colleges I kinda blend in with a lot of students applying to the same big schools as me. Would taking outside of school EC’s increase my chances?</p>
<p>I think doing things outside of school would definitely increase your chances! I think you just have to go the extra step to make sure what you’re doing is making an impact and shows that you care. For example, maybe instead of tutoring in Spanish, you could volunteer at the literary council and use your Spanish to teach people English? Stuff like that would look great.</p>
<p>That literary council idea sounds splendid! and Waverly I was aiming for a 2100+ on my SAT. I’m just a little worried that I wont do that great on the math section because most of my friend are taking Algebra II already as sophomores and i wont take that class until my junior year.</p>
