Yale vs Stanford - class of 2014

iamtbh, even though i could counter, i’m not going to respond because I think it is petty.

veviac, CONGRATS to your child!!! Getting into either Yale or Stanford, let alone both, is a great achievement. Best of luck with your choice. And visit them both if you can!

I think both Yale and Stanford are on par, but the campuses feel completely different, so I am always amazed when someone can’t decide between the two.

If safety is part of your consideration…

Violent crimes per 100,000 people in New Haven in 2001: 1540

Violent crimes per 100,000 people in Palo Alto in 2001: 137

namaskar: New haven and Palo Alto are extremely different places. But seeing as most students don’t live in New Haven proper, isn’t it better to look at on-campus crime incidences?

That being said, I don’t doubt that the grittier urban nature of New Haven and the Yale campus may be a legitimate concern to students and families. As I have stated many times, I wouldn’t hesitate to send either of my daughters to Yale if the circumstance allowed it…

That’s touchingly inaccurate in regards to what I’ve personally witnessed. It’s about par for the course with the YDN, though.

Irrelevant for undergrad, as noted. You’re there to learn, not worry about everyone else.

For those that don’t pay attention, it might come as surprise just how competitive some of the athletic programs are in the Ivy League. There are lots of teams/athletes competing at a top Division I level. No scholarships is a severe disadvantage of course, but there are clearly a lot of very strong athletes that have an interest in what is offered at Ivy League institutions.
