HELP EVERYONE! I'm in an extremely tight situation!

So after I received all my acceptances, I finally decided that Stanford was the school for me! I eliminated several Ivy Leagues and other top schools in the process. I was wait-listed to Yale but it meant nothing, I bought the Stanford gear and pledged myself a Stanford girl! Now I just receive an acceptance from Yale off the wait-list and I have noooooo idea what to do!

Pros of Stanford:
-Weather
-Good for my field of study
-New, exciting part of the country (I'm a jersey girl)
-AMAZING Campus
-I have a friend going there

Cons:
-Distance from home and the implications it causes
-May not be as "unique" as I think it to be because it's on the opposite coast
-Subpar Student Life (large campus, many students, a lot of work!)

Pros of Yale:
-Campus equally as kick-ass
-Slight - but could be disregarded - edge on prestige and resources available
-Good for my field of study
-Closer to home (only concerned about its convenience, otherwise I'm strictly committing to college life with no distractions)
-Big Bro is here :)
-Future opportunities more available on the East Coast than the West

Cons:
-Weather (not a game-changer tho)
-Average Social Life
-NEIGHBORHOOD (Dangerous!)

I work hard and I'm smart yet I embellish my personality. I don't solely live in a bubble of school and work. I'm fun whenever I'm given time to breathe (and I have eyes that'll knock a guy off his heels!). I really need the advice. I have a week to make this decision and I'm always distracted by thinking about it! Thanks a lot!

I always advocate people go to school in a geographically/culturally different place from the place where they grew up. Going REALLY away to school is enriching, and a huge opportunity for growth. So I’d say Stanford. California isn’t all it’s cracked up to be – but then, neither is Connecticut :)

Both schools are excellent, and you’ll probably be happy at either location . What fields are you interested in? Some have large differences between the two universities, both in quality of the program and opportunities after graduating. What are you looking for in a college experience?

I would second katliamom. You are apparently a very confident and capable young person, so there is no reason to play it safe and stay where you are comfortable. You should take this incredible opportunity to expand your horizons.

New Haven doesn’t feel dangerous to me, and likely never will. There are east coast biases against Stanford due to regional prestige, but both universities are nearly identical for their quality and opportunities. Realize that with Stanford you also have San Francisco too. Personality I’d go with cost, then fit.

I agree with the majority; there’s nothing that’s a deal breaker, here. You seem fully capable of being happy at either place. Heck, the east coast imports plenty of Californians; why not repay the compliment?

First of all, there is really no wrong decision here.

IMO – if you think you’re going to want to settle down East Coast after graduation (or Grad School), I’d go Yale. If think you want to settle down West Coast – Stanford.

Otherwise – which school speaks to you more. Beyond that – if it were a ‘tie’ in your mind, I’d probably recommend Yale, but these schools are really thisclose.
