yale writing SAT section

how heavily does yale look at the new writing section, or does yale even consider it at all (i know that some schools aren't)? if i have a 680, is that still competitive?

Yale will review the writing section, but with a grain of salt. It won't make or break their decisions (unless if you got like a 230).

nuts

...

unlike some colleges, yale hasn't mentioned specifically that it will weigh the writing section less than the others, but i think the rule of thumb for most colleges is, like theoneo said, to take it with a grain of salt. Since the new SAT writing section cannot be compared to the old SAT II writing, the standards for a "good score" have probably changed. And yes, a 680 is still very competitive.

ppl should read kaplan's research. Harvard and Upenn look at SAT Writing as if it were math or reading. Many schools don't look at it as much, some are still unsure.

a "grain of salt" is perhaps too harsh a word.

Well not like i care much cause my math/cr adds up to 1500...

boo. i got a high writing score

yeah even so, i think if you score high on the writing they will still recognize it... cuz it would be messed up of them to just ignore an 800 or something. they aren't that mean. or am i just making myself feel good. whatever i dont care.

mit discounts it i think, because they found that length of essay was directly related to score.

also, they get two essays from you, so they can judge for themselves wether or not you can write

I took the Writing SAT II and got a 770 but only got a 740 on SAT I writing...Do you think Yale will consider the SAT II to be my "real" writing score or the one on the SAT?

i think the SAT II Writing score will only be evaluated in conjunction with the old SAT I. So i think they'll use ur 740, unless u've taken the old SAT.
