Global Scholars seems like an awesome program.

I attended the 2014 PLE session. Awesome experience- met global students, engaged in fascinating discussions, and Akhil Amar is a boss. I highly recommend applying.

What other programs are you considering, Canuckgirl? I think Global Scholars sounds amazing, but I’m defnitely open to learning about some other options.

I just received an email telling me apps were open, Definitely interested. I live in a small southern town and attend a small private school so not a lot of opportunity for cool stuff like Model UN or new organizations but I have a lot of extra curricular activities including two sports, piano, volunteering, and a job. Ive got good grades and scores but Im hoping to shine through my essays and letters of Rec. for other summer programs, Im applying to TASP, MITES, and a Duke and harvard one. My back up summer plan is to do another Soccer ID camp at a nice university.
I’m applying for the International Affairs and Security session! My GPA is 4.6, I play piano, am involved in five clubs, have a job, good test scores, volunteer, and I’m in the running for valedictorian. Like SMPak786, my school doesn’t offer Model UN, unfortunately:( Hopefully my stats are enough to get me into the program… best of luck to everyone!
I attended YYGS last year and it was great. Initially I didn’t receive enough financial aid, so I emailed them back and told them I wouldn’t be attending because my family did not have enough money. They emailed me back the next day and added an extra $1,000 to my financial aid and asked me to reconsider my decision. I happily accepted their offer. Still, I worked out a deal with them for a payment plan for the remaining amount. I worked with them personally and we came up with a plan that would work with my family. The entire administration was amazing and provided answers to all my questions. The lectures were long but interesting, although there were a handful of people who dozed off. There was a variety of seminars on a large range of topics fit for everyones interests. The people were amazing and you really get to bond with students there. There are not a lot of restrictions, as long as you attend your lectures and seminars no one will be on your tail.
Haven’t received anything yet. I keep religiously checking my inbox and then this thread to see if I’m the only one! Good luck everyone; hope we’ll hear back soon.
