I am just hoping that this doesn’t affect my chance of getting in. And you’ll be applying to FMS right? (My 2nd choice is ASE) @gigichuck
@Thatnerdgirl373 yeah. FMS first, ASE second too.
@Thatnerdgirl373 are you applying for financial aid
@gigichuck yes, of course. I don’t want to be the cause of financial burden on my family. I’m super excited. I hope we both get selected, So that I’ll get to meet you! (: Anyways, how old are you?
I attended the BBS session last year, so if you have any questions, you may ask me!
@Thatnerdgirl373 turning fifteen on Dec 21. you?
@JonTargaryen what were your extra curriculars/honours and achievements?
@gigichuck I was in a biotechnology research group, SGA, NHS, volunteering for children, and in some other stuff I can’t really remember. For honours, I was in my school’s President List, junior marshall, and I received some awards I got from academic clubs. My ECs and honours weren’t that major. They’re pretty common really, except for that research group. I hope this helps! I believe I was accepted due to my essays, but I’m not sure.
@yoboy0101 Agreed. As someone who lived and interned in New Haven this summer, I actually found the huge mobs of lanyard-wielding YYGSers very frustrating, as the did Yale grad students and professors I worked with. To everyone applying to these programs, I hope you’re doing so for the personal experience and not the belief that it will significantly help you get into Yale or any other Ivy League school of your choice. Honestly, you’re better off setting aside the astronomical tuition prices to help levy the expenses of an cool unpaid internship or project. From what I’ve learned, colleges (particularly the Ivy League) appreciate motivated self-starters who make interesting opportunities available for themselves, not kids who happen to have the money to sign up for a pricey summer program. Of course, take this with a grain of salt, and if you happen to have the funds available–go for it! New Haven’s a great city and Yale is such an interesting place. You’ll probably have a great time!
@gigichuck turned 17 this september. My final year of highschool will begin in April.
@rougesneakers which program did you attend? And what were your achievements ? (:
There’s a part of the application where they talk about students whose native language is not English. Tbh I don’t know if I fall into this category. English was the first language I learned and it is my primary language of communication. I speak it fluently. Can someone help me clarify? And in the essays, must we use American English?
Hey guys! I’m an alumni from the BBS program last summer and would totally recommend this program. even if you don’t have the money just go for it and apply for the scholarships! Based off of my personal experience, those 2 weeks were probably the best two weeks of my life. I went in feeling kind of intimidated based on the other applicants and their accomplishments and was worried I wouldn’t be as qualified as everyone else was because I hadn’t done my own research or anything like that, but even on the first day I met some amazing people who I’m still friends with and I didn’t feel that way at all. The academics are fun–not super rigorous–and they are really just their to incite curiosity and open your eyes to different subjects. The people were by far the best part and I’m so happy I was able to meet people from every part of the world. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
is anyone done writing their essays yet?? Super hyped to get results (even though I haven’t even submitted my application yet haha)
If I’ve taken an AP exam in the past (didn’t do great), am I required to put that score on my application?
@Rich123456 I don’t think so…I took some SATs but I don’t plan on submitting them cause they’re on the lower side
@JennyCov @yayaylearner
What do yall think is a good SAT Score for YYGS?
@CIRCUITDEBATER no clue…cause I was only waitlisted last year~
@CIRCUITDEBATER well I hadn’t taken the sat by the time applications were due because I was waiting to take the new sat in March, but my act was 34. I don’t think they care about scores as much as they do for admission into the actual university because I knew a couple sophomores who got in and only had taken the PSAT by the time the apps were due.
Does applying early affect the application process?
