Yale Young Global Scholars (Ivy Scholars Program) Dicussion

Thanks candicezs!! Hope to see you there!! Can’t wait for May 21, when they send out acceptance emails for regular decision applicants!!

Congratulations to all of you!
I will be applying to the PLE program.
I will send my app this week because I have had a schoolwork like crazy for this past two months. I just got out of school for spring break this week and I have had no time to put my documents together!
That is one of the various reasons I do not have high hopes for getting in, along with me asking for financial aid, and being an international student :(

These*

:)

I also got accepted by PLE. macdonnell808: in your 1000-word ps, the most important thing is to show your interest in PLE, and then you have to state what you have done to assure the reader that you are capable of the two-week rigorous learning. A logically formed essay with your thoughts and ideas and humor is recommended.

Thanks jabbawockie!! Hope to see you there…

Accepted into GS, but didn’t get a scholarship even though I applied for financial aid.
I don’t think applying for aid decreases your chance of acceptance, though - they just don’t give any aid if your income is high enough.

Woohoo, i got into PLE as well (rather surprisingly), I’m very excited! See you guys there :)

emiliaval: I’m an international student, without any SATs or ACTs but I still got accepted…I don’t think it really matters unless your English is not of a subsequent standard to the programme’s level, and I bet yours is! So good luck :)

it seems like they mostly picked international students for this program.

Those of you who were accepted, about how many words was your personal statement?

Mine ended up being about 700 words. The one thing that the teacher who proofread my paper said was that these are busy people, so try and say what you want to say using as few words as possible.

Waitlisted for PLE. :(

Considering most people who got accepted will attend, my chances are slim.

You might be surprised with the cost of attendance and all.

Still waiting for news here, they only got my application 11 days ago.
Hopefully I’ll see some of you there!

When will the Fb page be made?

The Facebook Admin said that it was going to be made after everyone who was accepted to the program on the early decision list registered, and the registration date is this upcoming Thursday, so probably a little after that.

Hey guys! I’m gonna be applying for the ivy scholars program next year… Any tips on what to write for essays? Should I write about my interests in politics? I’m guessing it must be a redundant topic but nonetheless… Oh, and what type of grades are they looking for? I flunked freshman year although I took all honors… A bunch of Bs and Cs… Though I’m doing good now… Any ideas?? Thanks :)

For my essay I wrote about where my interest in politics, law, and economics stemmed from. That transitioned into the stuff I did in school to pursue those interests, and finally why I thought I was prepared for the program and how it would benefit me.

@max, I have the same interests in PLE. What did you do to pursue those interests in school?

Well I joined the debate team, model un, and the euro challenge. I’m also taking some economics classes on coursera, so I wrote about those things.

Is this program truly $4550 for only 13 days? That comes out to $350 per day! If this program was the full 8 weeks long, it would be over $19,000. WOW!
