Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) 2019

@LizUhRDG Me too, those were the only reasons that they provided me. I have the same questions as you lol. I’m not too upset about it though because I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford it even if I was accepted. Actually, maybe the reason I was dropped was because I needed so much?

i was rejected of the waitlist too
i personally think for me it was because i could only do 2 of the programs if taken off but idk

It seems to be a very big deal even for those who got accepted and still on the waitlist. Because YYGS will only make an offer a week prior to each session. In an account that every intl student will find difficulty to get the whole amount for YYGS tution fees and also to attain VISA, even to book flight tickets beacuse flights tickets will be highly priced a week before. A quick note to people who are not rejected- YYGS is just a summer immersion program, attending this will not drastically change your admissions chances. In this scenario if you are really great in a field, I suggest you to go out and do an internship in some company, That will be more worth at any means.

I got rejected off the waitlist too. And honestly it’s kind of a relief. I’m not surprised because I did need a lot of financial aid.

Hi, I was waitlisted for the Beijing ATC and I got accepted this morning! Anyone else applied to ATC? Im from Hong Kong but study in UK.

@A8A8A8, Will you please share what was in your email ?

@A8A8A8

Did you got a similiar mail like this at first or you just got a acceptance email ?

Dear XXXX,

Thank you again for choosing to remain on the Waitlist for Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS).

Applicants who are granted an offer of admission from the Waitlist will be notified individually via an update to their Application Status page. Admission may be granted up until a week prior to each session, and this letter confirms that you continue to remain on the Waitlist. At this time, you do not need to take any further action.

If you decide at any time that you do not wish to remain on the Waitlist, please complete the Decline Waitlist Form and we will remove your name.

@rohanthomas Hope this Helps:

I got the email below this morning but I got the ‘Thank you again for choosing to remain on the Waitlist for Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS).’ 2 weeks ago.

Dear XXXXX ,

Congratulations!

A spot opened up, and I am thrilled to now offer you admission to the YYGS-Beijing: Asia in the 21st Century (ATC) session of Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS)! ATC takes place at Yale Center Beijing (YCB) in Beijing, China from Sunday, July 28 - Saturday, August 10, 2019.

You and/or your family can learn more about everything ATC by visiting our website. All ATC programming takes place at Yale Center Beijing (YCB), with the exception of a few staff supervised cultural excursions. I though you received an email like me initially and later they accepted you. Congrats for your acceptance. <3

Dear XXX,

Thank you for applying to participate in Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) this summer, and for your patience as our selection committee completed its review of all candidates.

While we are unable to offer you a place in the summer 2019 program at this time, our selection committee would like to offer you a place on our 2019 Summer YYGS Waitlist.

  1. Dear XXX,

Wow , congratulations … I’m still waiting but I’m really about to lose hope hein… i don’t know

Wait ok I’m registering for the PLE II (I initially rejected ATC because the dates conflicted with another summer program and just recently got off the waitlist for my second choice), and do I have to buy early arrival, sheets & bath towel, and a tablet? It won’t let me through until I buy one, but I don’t need any.

@7mehga I'm not going to because it states in the update that it is a non-negotiable decision. Here is the entire message for anyone interested:

Thank you again for applying to participate in the 2019 summer sessions of Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS), and for your patience as our selection committee has continued to review all waitlisted 2019 candidates.

We are sincerely grateful for your continued interest in the program, but we regret to inform you that based on our yield rates and other calculations, you were not among those applicants selected to participate in the program this summer.

With this update you are effectively released from the Waitlist, and we encourage you to pursue other opportunities for this coming summer.

However, we saw great potential in your application, and believe that with another year’s worth of academic success and personal enrichment, you could be a competitive candidate for YYGS 2020. Therefore, we want to take this opportunity to encourage you to reapply next year.

As we noted in previous letters, this year’s applicant pool was the largest, most diverse group of applicants that YYGS has ever received, representing over 120 different countries and all 50 U.S. states. The selection process was extremely difficult, and the fact that you chose to apply shows that you are already in an incredibly impressive, self-selected group.

While we wish we could work with and support every single student who applies, unfortunately our staffing capacity and budget only allow us a limited number of seats in a lecture hall and/or beds in a dorm. In addition, we are unable to provide any feedback on your application to YYGS. Though this decision is non-negotiable due to capacity limits, we do encourage you to continue pursuing other educational opportunities for this coming summer.

We appreciate the time and effort you took in applying, and hope that these experiences will serve you well when you soon begin the complex process of applying for college.

We encourage you to keep up the great work, and we wish you a wonderful summer and the best of luck in all you choose to do.

oh i see that makes sense
