hi, i have a little question. i absolutely LOVE yale and everything about it, but i highly doubt i could get in. therefore, my question is: is there a school that is identical to yale's offerings, strengths of department, campus yet a bit less selective? ive been trying to look into this for a bit but i cant really make any conclusions.

haha thanx it just kinda popped into my head lol. yea i was thinking about wesleyan too!

oh i guess i should have mentioned this earlier, but im looking to go into IR and economics (double major) so schools with strong depts. in those

Yeah Williams isn't really a little brother to anyone ;)

Wesleyan is a good choice though--as for how selective it is, its still quite selective.. around 30% acceptance rate and SAT quartiles around 650-750

Wesleyan strikes me as having a culture too much its own to be compared to Yale. Trinity is more Yale-like culturally.

You could always go to Quinnipiac and bask in the glow of Yale (visit the parties, go to the football games, etc.), which is only in the next town over. I'm willing to be there's even the ability to cross-register for some courses.

dittogal, There are many schools that are like Yale in some aspects but different in others. You'll need to tell us more about what it is that attracts you to Yale (other than the prestige) and what level of selectivity you want and which disciplines you are looking for strength in.

If you want a largish university you could look at Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Melon, Duke, Cornell or one of many excellent state universities like North Carolina, Michigan or Virginia.

If you'd consider a small LAC there are quite a few that would offer a level of academics that are as good as Yale, but each one has its own personality so we have to know more about you before tossing out names.
