Yale's Official EA Stats

Total Applicants: 3,933
Admitted: 704 (17.9%)
Deferred: 1876 (47.7%)
Rejected: 1312 (33.4%)

That's a better acceptance rate than last year...

Source: http://www.yale.edu/asc/

=(

didn't help me; i was still deferred...

wow, that asc site is really interesting. I didn't have an interview, but the site would definitely have helped me in preparation if I did.

This year's EA pool must have been very strong for the acceptance rate to increase like that...

Asterstar, you were admitted, right?

yup. Not sure yet if I'm going, but I'm still very happy that I got in.

haha so you guys got your letters today too?

you got your letter today? that's odd...

I thought this was funny:

http://www.yale.edu/asc/guidelines/faq.html

"How does Yale compare with Harvard (or any other school)?

We should not discuss or present information on another school. Talk about what makes Yale special and then encourage the student to gather information from other schools. Prospective students should make comparisons for themselves. NO HARVARD BASHING!"

That apparently means that a record 46% of the Class of 2009 will be filled from the EA pool (an estimated 88% 0f 704 EA admits = 620, and projecting a total class of 1,305)

The admit rate for EA applicants whose apps were completed and not withdrawn was 18.1 %

Hahah I mentioned (bashed) harvard in my Yale interview. My interiewer laughed so hard.

OMG. That website is a gift from the GODS!!!!!

why does yale only get 3000 applicants ea? I know other ivies get a lot more, right?

3000 is very different from 3933, which is practically 4k (the same amount that harvard and stanford receive EA)

Stanford had 4,330 EA apps.

Harvard had 4,213 EA apps.

Yale had 3,892 EA apps.

Byerly, I thought that the 3933 figure already too the withdrawn apps out.

No. Add up the sub-figures:

704 admits
1876 deferred
1312 deferred
41 withdrawn

Total, including apps withdrawn: 3,933
Total completed applications: 3,892

Ah, I didn't do that ;)

lol byerly, the numbers guru

NYCFan, bless his heart.

I am proud to say, I was one of the select 1312 :)

Yale's 17.9% EA acceptance rate is roughly equal to the overall acceptance rate. Even pulling the EAs out of the mix, it appears that the advantage of applying EA isn't that great in terms of improving one's overall chances (unless the EA pool is less qualified than the RD pool.) The EA advantage appears to be just a few %.

In 2001 under ED, 39.6% were admitted to yale ED, albeit out of a much smaller pool of 1262.

Princeton still has ED, with a 29% acceptance rate, If it's a tossup between Princeton and Yale, ED princeton seems the way to maximize one's chances of getting into one or the other.
