<p>I was accepted to Yale, but I haven't heard much about their science programs, specifically biology, chemistry, and biomedical engineering. I hope to go to medical school, so would Yale adequately prepare for for the MCAT and so on? I know it's Yale, an awesome school, but a local doctor was telling me about how he knew some Yale undergrads completing their residencies who were totally clueless. He said that they mentioned that the professors would lecture on their own experiments and work, but they would not teach the basics. Does this ring true? Are Yale undergrads pretty successful in getting accepted to medical school?</p>
<p>The case of the Yale undergrades may have been isolated. The Wall Street Journal has ranked Yale #2 for sending students to top professional schools, including medical, business, and law I believe. </p>
<p>Okay, cool. I also had a few other questions come to mind. Anyone who is currently an undergraduate, alumni, or just capable of answering these questions is welcome to answer.</p>

<p>I'm an MB&B major at Yale and applying to medical schools now. </p>
<p>In a word, Yale's science program is phenomenal. Although Yale may be well known as a liberal arts college, our science curriculum is rigorous and challenging. The comment about the self-centered professors would ring true at any institution... I don't think Yale is over-represented at all in that category. Especially the younger faculty, who are much more down-to-earth, enthusiastic about undergraduate participation, and very very approachable. </p>
<p>About applying to medical school from Yale, about 200-300 Yalies a year apply to medical school. Almost all of them get in. Yalie's are really really competitive in the medical school process, there hasn't been a single school that I've interviewed at where I didn't run into a whole slew of Yalies in its roster. We do well for ourselves. </p>
<p>To answer your questions:</p>
<p>1) I can't say that it's easy to maintain a high GPA... you have to work hard, but it's definitely very do-able. It's all about time management, and you'll pick it up quick. I wouldn't worry so much about GPA, have a good time. </p>
<p>2) Professors are for the most part really accessible and friendly. I speak for the biological science departments (MB&B/ Biology). They love talking to the undergraduates and are almost always willling to make time in their busy schedule to meet with you. </p>
<p>3) It's really what you make it. There are some pretty competitive people here, and there are a lot of really laid-back and easy going people as well. It depends on who you surround yourself with. I would say that the vast majority (80-90%) of the people here are really friendly and helpful. </p>
