How is the social life at Yale?? Are the kids willing to get drunk on the weekends and party their hearts out or is it more conservative than that? How are the parties there???

someone help!!!!!!!! bulldog days are monday and tuesday and there is no way i can see the social life in action during those days

i hear that Yale has MANY MANY parties... not to mention that the Yale administration is really relaxed about parties.

Yale social life is good. I'm pretty sure it is the most social among the HPY. Most people I have talked to, teachers, Yale students, my interviewer, mentioned that Yale has a very collegial feel as soon as you're in. You're going to be bonding with these people quite a bit. So it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually, Bulldog Days give you a much better approximation of what its like during a weekend than during a regular school day. There are like 2 or 3 frat parties and generally at night its just a bunch of pre-frosh getting drunk. It still is a school night for Yalies though so its mostly pre-frosh doing the partying.

Just to answer your question, you generally have your option of doing whatever every weekend. If you want to get smashed every weekend you certainly can as there is usually at least one frat party a week and not to mention numerous room parties and the parties every weekend night (usually including thursday) in the residential college party suites. Yale is one of the most lax schools about alcohol. Most residential colleges even have funds for purchasing party supplies that everyone knows goes to purchasing alcohol. To the Yale administration, alcohol is not a disciplinary issue so if you are drinking underage or are visibly drunk right in front of a faculty member, you might get sent to DUH (Yale Health Services) but you won't get punished. The only time you might get punished for being drunk at Yale is if you do something stupid when you are drunk, like get in a fight or damage Yale property, but even then you would only get punished for those things.
