What can anyone tell me about Yale's Theater Studies program? Is it one of the top programs in the nation? Also, what are some of the admissions prerequisites? What would be some extracurricular activities I could do in high school that deal with the producing and playwriting aspect of the program? The program's website wasn't very detailed in that part.

Two classes are offered for anyone to take for Theater Studies. These also serve as prereqs into the major and higher level courses. One must audition to get into the major -- end of Soph year. I'm not sure what the producing side requires. I imagine playwriting falls within the Eng dept.

from what i've seen so far, it seems like the grad school of drama is the MUCH better known thing on campus. the undergrad theatre studies major is more academic and less practical...it's not intended to be a training program for broadway. i think the general idea of theatre at ivies is that you go to an MFA program later on for more specialized training. it looks like the upper-level courses do require auditions and such, but there are no prereqs or auditions to be a theatre major-- you just have to get in first.

Deenierah: people are not allowed into the upper level classes unless accepted/auditioned. This is the coursework to be a theater studies major.

So would you have to have had any theater experience in high school in order to be a Theater Studies major when applying? Do you have to have any extracurriculars relating to theater?
