Yes, the program is with USAFA. They are boosting their Chinese programs this year and expect to keep doing so. Every year people do exchanges and several week long immersions to places like Spain, Chile, Argentina, Japan, Russia, etc. So, she is actually going to Japan over spring break as well, but is more looking forward to the Beijing trip during summer. I believe she is applying for the program (new one!) to study at a civilian university for a full semester. That program is still being worked on I believe, but if your S is gaining fluency quick, then he could easily be a shoo in at the academy as a sophomore or junior with these programs (assuming he keeps up his stats in other aspects of the academy).

Push-up advice huh? Probably one of my worst, but some advice given to me: When doing the push-ups, first, make sure he is BREAKING 90 degrees. However, even though that makes it harder (but is a picky point for graders here) use all gravity to get down. Think of your arms as springs. Relax them to go almost touching the ground then spring back up. That way the momentum is only being used on the up push. Also, the arm position can be changed in the exercise. Start with arms closer in and work your hands out as you get tired. I hope this might help!

That's exciting about the Chinese program. And let us know if you get more info on the semester program. He really wants a Chinese abroad program. The civilian school he's been accepted to even has a year long program in Singapore...which he'd love to do. We are moving back to Texas this summer, so he would love opportunity to be back in Asia. Don't know how ROTC feels about that though.

Another thing to consider is that ROTC and USAFA have VERY different lifestyles. If he is looking for a much more military oriented lifestyle then the academy will provide that, ROTC will still have a very college feel to it.

I have a quick question, will USAFA take University of Washington spanish 4 credits from highschool? I am currently taking the class and one of my spanish teachers told me not every college will accept them. Ima call the admissons office about this, but what do any of you think?

What would happen is you would take a fluency test during Basic Training. That would determine what level you would enter. You wouldn't get "credit" but you would be moved to a higher level class. 4 semesters at the 200 level or above will give you a minor.

Actually, Spanish and German work a little differently. Rather than taking the test early in BCT with all your other exams, you have the opportunity to take it online before Inprocessing (I believe I took mine in May). I'm sure the Academy will let you know about this sometime in the near future.
