Yay Brown deadline extended?! Jan 4th

Out of curiosity, and not that I’m unthankful, does anyone know why a school like Brown would extend their application deadline?

I don’t really know why. They are supposed to have a huge applicant pool this year.

I asked commonapp about the deadline earlier and they responded:
Thank you for contacting the Support Team.

Please go by the deadline that is listed in the Common App as that is the information that the school has given us.

Again, thank you for contacting us; please do so again if you need additional assistance with this incident.

Regards,
The Support Team

does this mean it’s still due today?!?!??!

I have no idea. I got the exact same message too which isnt very helpful. Maybe we should rephrase the question and see whether it is actually possible to submit an application after it is due. It could be possible that we can submit it but the college itself may not accept it.

why would brown put that on their website if they were not really planning on accepting applications.

Anyone know whether this means the deadline for the Brown-RISD Dual Degree Supplement is also extended to January 4th?

I don’t know how this is going to work, because you can’t submit Common App materials for a college after the deadline has passed.

“Each member institution has a specific deadline for when they will accept your Common Application and supplement. Once a deadline has passed, you will no longer be able to submit your forms to this institution. Deadlines can be viewed in the ‘My Checklist’ section.”

I don’t think the Common App is going to change anything, so the extension may be pointless after all.

is there a way to apply not on the common app website? i couldn’t find any forms but i may be going crazy.

I guess you could physically mail the common app to Brown but that is a lot of effort.

The Common App will allow us to apply to Brown after the 1st, despite the redundant deadline it shows.

Thank you for contacting the Support Team.
Yes, you will be able to submit your application after January 1st.
Again, thank you for contacting us; please do so again if you need additional assistance with this incident.

Thank God!

BU also extended its deadline to the fourth… interesting

This is what I got from common app:

"Thank you for contacting the Support Team.

While Brown may accept the application by Jan. 4th, if it says Jan. 1st on the Common App it cannot be submitted after that date. If you do wish to submit after a deadline it’ll have to be done on paper.

Again, thank you for contacting us; please do so again if you need additional assistance with this incident.

There seems to be a lot of different answers…just to be safe. I’d submit it by Jan 1st.

Thanks for your message.

Yes, you should still be able to submit your application after the deadline.

Regards,

conflicting messages, much?

^ it doesn’t really say how to submit( commonapp or paper)

The Common App support team is giving us very conflicting answers. :(

I’m really concerned about this; I know it’s my fault, but I’m scrambling to edit my Brown supplement and I’d LOVE the extra time.
But it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

^ Though they can’t really say “we won’t accept this anymore” if it’s on their own website…could they?

Yes, but the common app won’t let you submit after THEIR deadline has passed :frowning:
and I have no way to submit it except for the common app. No time for a paper app.

how do i do a paper app?
