YDN: 26,000 applicants

Yale Daily News - News analysis: Early admit cutback levels field

Good article. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I was deferred to RD at Yale!

This is about a 14% increase over last year's record total.

Based on previous patterns, this projects to about 7.5% overall admission rate and about 4.6% RD admission rate.

Oh my....that's a LOT of applicants.

Wow.

10 chars

5% RD rate...really? lol

LOL!

that means 24,000 rejections :(

4.6%?!?!?!?!

i dont believe that it is 4.6
although i am too lazy to calculate the numbers

It is certainly disconcerting. I'm trying not to think about it.

Approx 1920 admissions offered annually
- 742 admissions already offered (SCEA)
=1178 admissions available for RD

Approx 26000 total applications
- 5557 SCEA applications
+ 2645 deferred SCEA apps back to RD pool (47.6% of 5557)
= 23008 RD applications

1178/23008 = 5.1% (did not adjust completely for SCEA denieds before)

Oh my god... I stand absolutely no chance RD!
That's a REALLY scary number guys... 5.1% is ridiculous.
I'm praying for a wait-list, haha.

Descartesz,
but those who were offered SCEA admission may not attend in fall. they might go to others schools, which leaves some more spots for the RD applicants.

I can't even imagine how long it take to go through 1,000 applications. Not to mention twentysixthousand. Wowza.

well, goodbye, yale..

^^ haha... that's very appropriate...deff need to order one of those

man, I love demotivational posters. I could spend all day on that site...

wow. just what I wanted to hear. I feel really encouraged...

Indeed, yes, they might. 2008 SCEA yield was about 80%, and if this behavior holds about 150 SCEA admits will go elsewhere.

Nevertheless they have already been offered some of the 1900 or so admission spots. Yale has already built into these offers the expectation that some will turn them down, which is how they arrive at the 1300 or so matriculants who show up on campus each year. If yield comes in lower than expected, Yale will turn to its waitlist.

4.6 would be an almost disgustingly low admit rate for RD.

Good luck, guys.
