Yea! Tax transcripts available online

You can now request tax transcripts and verification of nonfiling letters online - they are available immediately: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript.

Just want to add that this is also a very handy way to find out if the FAFSA data retrieval tool is available for you. It takes a few minutes to sign up for an account on the IRS [Get Transcript](Get Transcript | Internal Revenue Service) website, but once you’ve done that, it only takes a moment each day to go online and find out if your transcript is available. Once it’s available on the IRS site, the data retrieval tool will also be available through the FAFSA site.

And don’t panic if the IRS site says you didn’t file and offers you a letter attesting to your “non-filing” status. Apparently, until your return is processed, that’s all it knows how to say. Just ignore it and check back again the next day.

Checking this way is much quicker than going through the entire FAFSA login in process, so, for me, it was a real timesaver.
