Yeah, another one of these...

That is, my chances of getting into Harvard or any real Ivy league. I'm a junior and go to - I believe - the biggest high school in VA.

-3.92 GPA weighted, 3.85 unweighted

-Took AP Euro my Sophomore year and got an A and 4 on the exam. Will be taking the following APs this year: Psychology, Macroeconomics, US History, Language/Comp, Human Geography. Macro and Psychology are both online and semester-long.

-In my school's 'gifted program'.

-Public Forum debater and my debate team's treasurer. So far, we've been able to go from no fundraising prior to having raised almost 500 dollars in the last month or so.

-Treasurer and member of the German Honor Society.

-Volunteered for a political campaign in 2008 and will be doing the same this round of elections.

-The last time I took the PSAT, which was at the start of my Sophomore year, I got a 186. 72 reading, 62 writing, and 52 math. I hadn't taken Geometry at the time, however, and that really brought my math down.

GPA wise, I got a 3.71 my freshman year and was generally not too interested in school. I got a 4.14 sophomore year and 4 unweighted - that's when I started to really kick it into gear.

What I'm planning to do -

-Join FBLA, MUN, and DECA and get involved there. Possibly join track this year.

-Join NHS. I was invited last year, but there was a bit of a complication and I ended up not getting my application done in time

-I should be my Debate team President and Captain of Public Forum Senior year, but that's to be seen.

-Raise my GPA to a 4.2/4.3 weighted and roughly 3.95 or so unweighted.

-Gonna try to get a part time job this year.

-Take another 5 or so APs my Senior year.

-This summer, I'm going to try to get into the Congressional page program(I live outside of DC) and see if I can't get any connections there.

Also, I should note that I'm generally in very average classes when it comes to Math and science. This is largely due to my Middle School record - I did not try whatsoever and had maybe a 77 percent attendance rate - and my generally poor understanding at math.

If I actually follow the stuff I've outlined, do you think I'd stand a chance? Also, financially, I'd be eligible for their financial aid full-ride deal. Will that impact me negatively?

Thanks for any advice.

What’s a “real ivy”?

We would need your class rank and SAT scores to have a better idea. Your math PSAT was lower than it should be so make sure you do a lot of math SAT prep before you take it.

It was just weird phrasing on my part - I meant any Ivy.

Well, iirc, I had 4/11 or something like that of Geometry questions right. I hadn’t taken any Geometry at that point, and I think that’s a large part of the SAT/PSAT - that’s one reason my math was really low. Plus, I’m just bad at it - I’m going to work on that a lot.

As far as my class rank, it’s not readily available, but I will be in the top 10 percent at the very least. My graduating class should be around 700-900, I think.
