I've heard that some people who are rejected from UGA go to Georgia Southern. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about Georgia Southern because I've heard it was pretty much a terrible school academically, just a party school basically. Thanks much to all!

That's pretty accurate. I can't find one possible benefit of attending Georgia Southern. Georgia State has similar admissions standards and is a much better school.

yeah I was just making sure. I got accepted to Georgia State like 2 hours ago, so right now I'm waiting for my UGA decision. Hopefully we don't have to go to school tomorrow due to the snow/sleet/ice! Anyway, thanks for the response!

whats funny is at school all the kids who have visited georgia southern or have siblings there like the school and all of the kids that know nothing about it think it sucks. any correlation?

Not really. The kids that go to GA. Southern go there for a reason. Obviously they are not that serious about academics and therefore value a school on other things like how attractive the people are and how good the parties are. I have been to Georgia Southern and to put it lightly, it would be hell to go there on a regular basis.

lol youre just doing more assuming. all i recomend for the op is to do an overnight visit and see if you like it.

What am I assuming? I never said that the people you point to do not like it there. I know several kids from my high school that love Georgia Southern. Unfortunately, they are just terrible students and they always have been. Why would someone want to do an overnight at a school with virtually no positive reputation in a location like Statesboro? It's a waste of time for someone who actually is thinking about bigger future plans.

southern is a party school and doesnt care about academics maybe?
georgia southern is still a doctoral research university with way better funds to go around than the nonamers like ga state, columbus, AASU.

heck, the people i know that arent going to southern are heading off to the prestigous universities of 'southwestern polytechnic western academy instituitonal university" or some bs. well i say have fun getting your degree and having no connections.

and yeah, if you get into tech or uga, there's no reason for gsu unless youre on a full ride or its next to free

no less than 15 years ago, UGA was the party school with no academics lol now look at it

You have got to be kidding me... You pretend as if Georgia Southern is this name brand school with a bunch of money to throw around. Georgia Southern is much less well known than Georgia State and its departments are far from the quality that we see at state. Georgia State has a quality Economics department and a pretty good business school, in addition it is a research university with a larger endowment than Southern. Even if you throw academics aside, its location in Atlanta allows you to have much better job and research opportunities than if you go to school in podunk Georgia.

I don't think anyone here, regardless of your stats, should even consider a school that is known more for its proliferation of STD's than intellectual thought.

you forgot southern's top 20 chem department but you dont know too much about gsu anyway

anyway yeah. i like state. if i was one of those unintelligent geeks obsessed with tech id be all over state. nothing better than living in the shadow of your dream!

Yeah well I guess if you want to live in a ****-kicker town with no intellectual outlet than go to Southern. Personally, id rather have the geeks with the option of making other friends in the city, you don't have that option at Southern. I'll be honest; I know kids at both places and I can safely say the ones that go to GSU have a lot more going for them.

"and yeah, if you get into tech or uga, there's no reason for gsu unless youre on a full ride or its next to free"

I have a friend that is going to southern because of just that...he's getting a full ride.

I live within an hour of Southern and i'll tell yall right now if you want to go to college to get a degree and have some fun then don't go to southern. If you want to party and walk away with a sheet of paper that you didn't really work hard for...go to southern. I know people there and there not all the smartest guys in the world. I will say that you will some some intelligent people on the campus...but they are the vast minority. Weigh the pros and the cons.

it is simply amazing how bad rumors about gsu can get. 'walking away with a sheet of paper you didnt work for?" lol whatever.

do you not understand that if GSU was that bad, it wouldnt be a research university capable of giving PhD's, it would loose its licenses, ect?

you also dont seem to understand that UGA had this same rep 15-20 years ago, and both of my parents avoided it and went to lesser schools like georgia state and valdosta state.

and you seem to forget that:
you have to have a 3.0, 1000 sat to get in
+

gsu has a 47% acceptance rate

not just any retard in the state can get in

geez some people are just so weak minded that they have to take what everyone else has 'heard' or 'seen' and apply it to real life. thats what i hate. people that pretend they're the experts on something they know nothing about.

at any rate, back up your statement that GSU has extreme, bottom level academics. prove it. and not just some bs your friend told you or you 'heard' some unspecified time ago.

"you have to have a 3.0, 1000 sat to get in"

That's nothing to brag about.

"geez some people are just so weak minded that they have to take what everyone else has 'heard' or 'seen' and apply it to real life. thats what i hate. people that pretend they're the experts on something they know nothing about."

Like I said...I have many friends that go there and I am very close to the campus. While it does have some decent programs the majority of undergrad at GSU is not anything to be extremely proud of. But don't listen to me cause I don't have a Phd.

There are bad PHD's in this country you know... It doesn't take much for a school to gain accreditation either. I think the problem here is that we are operating from different perspectives. I also don't think a 3.0 and a 1000 are very competitive numbers.

you cant take part of what i say and apply it as the whole story

"you have to have a 3.0, 1000 sat to get in
~~~+~~~
~~~gsu has a 47% acceptance rate~~~

not just any retard in the state can get in"

i made it easier for yall to understand

"majority of undergrad at GSU"
you know em?

Look man, I don't want to resort to insults but your arguments are completely groundless. The acceptance rate is incredible deceptive. Why? Because GSU doesn't have competitive applicants that apply there in the first place. People that know they will get into UGA never even apply to GSU. All of the people that get accepted early to UGA don't apply there either as they have already been accepted. GSU's applicant pool is limited to Tech and UGA rejects who have to go somewhere in state for college. I don't know of anyone in the top 100 of my high school class that even considered GSU.

Just so you have the perspective of someone who lives inthe same region as GSU (like 30 mins away in Savannah, GA)....people here see it as a last ditch effort to go to college. Um...the standards aren't as high as UGA at all I don't think and it has a SERIOUSLY bad rep...both with their sports and the fact that their campus is infested with STDs. I wouldn't reccommend it...but maybe that's just because I live so close. If it's between GSU and Clown School...choose GSU....

47% acceptance rate is SO wrong.more like 87%. GSU doesn't even rank amongst the top colleges and also Oberlin has like an acceptance rate of 47% and GSU is NO OBERLIN lol

rumors. speculations. guessing.

why cant you people come up with better reasons why GSU sucks? come on. you guys are supposed to be smart beyond gsu. something you heard from your friend doesnt count. BACK UP WHAT YOU'RE SAYING

im not comparing GSU to uga or tech. I know GSU is inferior to uga and tech. it is better than almost every other public U. in the state. i know gsu is all people that didnt get into uga or tech. DUH

could i please just ask why you can't back up what you're saying with proof? you say everything i say is groundless when I can tell you an acceptance rate (look it up on princeton or collegeboard), which programs are highly rated (chemistry), the fact that it is a research U, designated by the state of georgia (like UGA, tech, mcog, state) and is only a regional for organizational purposes.

let me insult you by saying youre weak minded for following what others tell you and think instead of doing your own research and THEN threatening somebody with insults over something stupid like whether or not gsu is a good school.
