Yeah, we're moving IN, but what about moving OUT!! AHHH!!

So I leave tomorrow morning for UNC - yahoo!! But in the midst of the packing craziness, my parents started thinking...well, where does all this stuff go over summer? I'm from NY and don't plan on bringing all that junk home with me.

What are the storage options at UNC? In Chapel Hill?

How do students get their stuff out of their dorms and into the storage places?

Is the OSSA (out of state students assoc.) any help with this?

Thanks! I think my dad wants to check out any possible options tomorrow and Wednesday when we're there.

I've seen this thread not so long ago, I just can't find it. Yes, there is storage in town and the thread has the information. Sorry I can't help more!

I heard that there is storage options, usually at $50 a month.. I guess we can just ask older kids what exactly they are?
But yeah, there is no way I am taking all that stuff back either

find a friend to share with....but there are some nice ones in carrboro. we are from atlanta and will be doing the same thing. in the past we picked it all up.
one of my D's is going to stay next summer. If she has an apt, we may put some stuff there and pay her rent on that room

We used Village Self Storage at 515 South Greensboro in Carrboro. Family run, close to school, very secure.

We didn't get the smallest unit which was about $50 per month because we were worried the Vespa wouldn't fit. Instead, we rented the next unit up for $75 per month. All for naught, the scooter would have fit in the smallest unit.

Sharing is a great idea btw!

Sorry to bump this thread back up to the top...

My OOS/International D needs to find storage for all her stuff over the summer. Problem is she doesn't have a car and she has quite a bit of stuff...

I've sent her the Carrboro storage address... but does anyone have any more information on this?

TKS!

There are lots of self-store options. She can rent a van or truck for a day to haul her stuff. She can check the local phone book: http://chapelhill.findlinks.com/

You are not alone; most OOS students also choose to store their bulky belongings, bedding, microwaves, mini fridges, foutons and winter clothes.

Did you happen to get a Parent's Handbook? In the past it had a number of storage options listed in it.

My advice is to sign up early because the places close to UNC fill up very quickly and the one we used in Durham (because S waited too long....) is no longer open.

My S shared the space with four others: they had four foutons, four tvs, four mini fridges, two bikes and many boxes filled with clothing, bedding etc.....it was packed to the door but all-in-all very well worth the piece of mind and convenience plus the cost was really minimal divided five ways.

One thing to check on is minimum age to rent a trruck or van; it could be problematic at some places.

riomom - During my last conversation with the owners of Village Storage, they mentioned they have a truck and help students move their belongings from dorm rooms into the storage facility for a fee. We plan to do that this year so that ldgirl can just fly home. (Last year, we drove up and helped her move her things...but it's a tough trip with a h.s. freshman at home still in classes.) My understanding is Village starts taking reservations for the summer in March.
