year off between undergrad and med in HPME program?

I'm in an HPME program. Next year is my last "undergrad" year, and so I'm slated to begin med school in fall 2009. I'm starting to realize that I'd like to take a year off to travel and explore before starting down the med school/residency road.... Does anyone have any experience in doing this? I don't even know if my program will allow it, and don't know the reaction if I ask... so I thought I'd ask here first. thanks

Yes, if you’re referring to NW.
I know someone who took a year off before starting med school and they were very supportive about it. Just make sure you talk to the program people about it. They will def. help you.

Do you know the reason they took the year off?

(wondereing if wanting to travel/experience/see the world would be considered legit?)

lol those are pretty much always the reasons why a person would take a year off, so yea i think youre fine

My friend’s D has taken a year off after completing her 4 yrs of BA/MD at NYU.
She plans to finish up a Masters in Biomed Engineering (nonthesis) within a year and begin MD thereafter.

The person I was referring to took a year off to work.
