Whitman does indeed send its new admits a box of Walla Walla sweet onions!! My daughter just got her box!

Whitman is truly a great school. I hope your daughter enjoys her academic as well as her social experience there.

Thank you. She is really excited about starting college.

Walla Wallas are wonderful! I get such a kick out of a school that has the sense of humor and love of their community that comes with the letter and accompanying box of onions. Inspired my son to cook, no less!

LOL, well I just hope they hold for next few weeks as my daughter is in Israel until August 1.

Darn it, Concerneddad...I was about to start this thread!!! Good onions, though:D.

from my experience, they don't last very long. They have a very high water content and rot very quickly. Save one for your daughter, and enjoy the rest.

For concerneddad:
While looking for a recipe to use for our trove of Walla Walla Sweets, I found
this link on storing them(good recipes also)...Hope your daughter will get to enjoy her onions in August.

I'm happy as a clam w/my daughter's onions. We carmelized one and topped a pizza with it. We skewered two and marinated them in balsamic vinegar and olive oil and grilled them slowly for an hour til they tasted like crunchy candy. One ivy league school sent out tubes of confetti that didn't fit in anyones mailbox, so the parents had to go pick up their worthless mystery packages from the PO and they were understandably annoyed. These onions are amazing!
