Yes/No question

If I have...

-Low GPA at a very competitive school (amazing school, more intense workload than college's, sends so many seniors to top colleges every year)
-Decent SAT
-Great essays
-Strong recommendations
-Excellent ECs
-Okay awards

Do I still have a chance of getting in Ivy Leagues and top 20 colleges? It's just my GPA that worries me. I got many Bs lately, especially in AP courses. So, my GPA's slightly lower than 3.8.

way too broad. give real numbers and then it would make sense. but from how it sounds, no

-GPA: 3.71 uw (No +/-, 7-point scale)
-SAT: 2260
-Great essays: a lot of good comments I received
-Strong recommendations
-Excellent ECs: Very passionate
-Okay awards: Just 4 awards
-No rank because the school's so competitive

thats not a low GPA...stop stressing urself out, you'll be fine.
Once u get into the highly-selective college range, its less about numbers, and more about you

I can't believe you called 2260 "decent" and 3.7 UW GPA "low". You are a douchebag, and although you probably won't get rejected most places, I hope you do.

I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to. I forgot to mention that if colleges recalculate my GPA and not include electives, my GPA would be 3.5. That's why I'm worried about it.

haha heybucs i'm with you on that one

I think you still have a good chance as long as everything else on your application are amazing. Your SAT score as well as your school background compensate for your GPA. Don't worry. Just relax.

2260 is below decent and 3.7 is REALLY low if the OP means to apply to top colleges.

Heybucs, don't PMS just because your GPA and standards are much lower.

2260 - decent sat? are you high?

Harvard's average SAT was about 1495 (unofficially, they don't release official statistics). So I'm gonna go out on a limb here, we'll say a Harvard student would average a 750 on the writing section, and that would add up to an average in the 2245 neighborhood. We'll take another giant leap of faith and say that an above average score at Harvard is a pretty good score elsewhere. (<a href="http://www.studentsreview.com/MA/Harvard_University.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.studentsreview.com/MA/Harvard_University.html</a>)</p>

Also, if he has been conditioned by his high school to believe that 2260 is decent, apparently his high school is chock full of students who have spent thousands on SAT classes and private tutors, and a 3.7 GPA is not going to reflect that poorly.

yeah. i am about to sidewith you. saying a 2260 sat is decent is the rudest thing i have heard today

For second time, I'm sorry. I assume that, by CC's standard, my SAT score is "decent" because there are so many people here with so much higher scores. One more time: I'm sorry.

3.8? Low? What are you smoking?
2260? Decent? Are you kidding me?

Relative to Ivy League schools, a 2260 is about decent considering the scores of the applicants who get in on academic merit.

I also think it's stupid to assume that a lot of SAT tutors will somehow raise yor score or something.

wait, a 3.7 out of 7.0? that is low....

a 3.7 out of 4

i just found the cure for the common cold, but gosh darn, there is still so much out there that i haven't found the cure for, i hope that hyp won't hold that against me when i apply.

OK you guys, calm down. A 3.7/4.0 GPA is a little low for Ivies. The 2260 is better than decent, and will put you in a good position. You could definately get into top 20 universities and probably get into an Ivy league college.

3.7 out of 4.0 is only low at schools that give away grades, which there are many of.
