Yes, this is a Chances type thread...

But i am totally stressed out right now and i am curious.

SAT:
750 verbal
720 math
710 writing

SAT II:
750 chem
720 US hist.
Soon will take math 2....

ACT
English 30
math 36
science 34
writing 31
Comp 36

AP
BC calc 5
+subscore 5
US Hist 4 (****ed me off i can tell you that)
chem 4 (actually not bad. the way they teach chem at my school is retarded...)

gpa:
4.0 unweighted (valedictorian as of yet)

5 german credits through Eastern Washington Univeristy

everything AP/honors except for band

activities:
3 years football, 10 years piano, 6 years band, 3 years member of advanced band at HS, math/german club, NHS, NSHSS, technical classes during summer (required for graduation)

awards:
national merit ...? (not sure until october...), honor roll, 6 years math in 4 years HS, Regents Scholar (Washington State University), others that i cant remember... (nothing earth shattering)

I am interested in Engineering (ideally civil/environmental).

What do you think the most elite school i could get into realistically?

Elite in engineering, or "elite" in general? For engineering probably Stanford/Berkeley. MIT would be a reach.

it'll be as much as a reach for stanford as for mit in my opinion, berkeley is little less of a reach, but not a match (schools like that are too competitive to be matches for anyone)

i mean elite schools strong in engineering.

and my Comp ACT was 34 not 36 . i wish... oops.

Quuit worrying about how elite the school is and find a place that is compatible with your personality and interests.

What do you think the most elite school i could get into realistically?

You are asking the wrong question. Where do you want to go? Answer that and we can chance you.

i would like to go to Cornell Engineering or Columbia FU Engineering. they have "higher" acceptance rates. plus they are in NY (I NEED to get out of WA...). and columbia is in NY, NY.

getting into places like stanford, MIT, or Olin College of engineering would be great, but it is quite unlikely.

will colleges look at a 5 on the BC calc test JUNIOR year in lieau of an 800 in SAT math? or at least give it consideration?

also, what are some of the good less exclusive engineering schools?
how strong is engineering at northwestern? how about swarthmore?

You would be in the running at any of the engineering colleges, but the top schools are all reaches. It really depends on how the applicant pool is the year you apply. You need to get the accept stats for each engineering school separate from the university on the whole to see where you stand in regard to test scores, as well as the general selectivity of the school. Many of the state universities have great engineering departments; so do the schools with "IT" in their names. Case Western is a good school, Purdue also has a good rep, Wesleyan is a small school with an engineering dept that I know accepted a young man from here with your stats.

thanks for your info. would the colleges have the specific engineering stats on whe web or whould i contact the admissions offices?

*should . . .

Have to look around. Maybe search on CC threads for individual colleges. I found that Cornell engineering accepts about 34% of applicants with a mid SAT range of 1340-1510, with math scores ranging 710-790. Most kids in the top 10% of their class. Don't know your grades or class rank, but you can see where you stand test score wise. You are in the mid 50% range, though the math is a bit low.

gpa is 4.0 unweighted, meaning all i have gotten thus far isAs.

classes are

Freshman:
honors english 10, honors science 9, integrated math 3, PE/health, intermediate band, Honors Global issues

sophmore:
Honors english 10, honors science 10, pre-calc, advanced conditioning (required PE credit...), advanced band, german 1/2 (languages aer by semester)

Junior:
2nd year chem AP, AP english 11, AP US history, german 3/4 (college credit 2nd semester), AP Calc AB (but i studied independantly and did the BC test (5!!!)), advanced band

Senior:
AP Euro history, AP statistics, AP English 12, advanced band, online german 5/6 (schedule issues...), honors physics (no AP option...)

if any of that info helps.

Actually, it's Swarthmore that has the engineering program. Wesleyan has a 3-2 program with Caltech and Columbia. It also has an excellent Physics program, if you're looking for something in pure science.

ACT
English 30
math 36
science 34
writing 31
Comp 36

Is that possible? Guess it is!

Edit: Oh, a 34. That's still good. Wow, the ACT has a great curve!
