Guys, I wouldn’t worry too much about this. I’m sure that you all have really spectacular achievements in math/science—the thing is, YES is a new program, so we don’t know what exactly it is they are selecting for. </p>
<p>For all we know, geographic location could play a part. If Yale wanted to recruit, it’s possible that they would select more west-coasters than east-coasters because it’s a lot harder for us to visit Yale (as opposed to Stanford). Also, don’t get the false impression that we are all IMO geniuses…I myself have only achieved AIME level in math…perhaps they liked my essays or something? The point is, no one knows…however, we could try compiling the general data of people who <em>were</em> accepted into YES, and observe for similarities…</p>
