I'M IN!!!

So many of us on these boards, haha.

Congratulations, everybody!

It's gotta be the best feeling in the world, huh? Not just for students, but parents, too.

I'm in! I'm so excited!

in. nuf said.

my parents were much more relieved and excited than I was.

Well that's pretty sad, rbcello...why wouldn't you be happy? If you applied ED, you should adore the school, I'd think! :D

Hey,

Got the letter yesterday out here in NC. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

rbcello's comment was probably more a reflection of the parents' overenthusiasm than his or her lack of enthusiasm. We parents can get a little out of hand sometimes, as I'm sure most of you might have noticed!

Haha, alright, that makes sense, I guess. My parents were probably just as excited as I was, or less so (financial aid package), but I was incredibly happy, so no one seemed as happy as I did.

I hope that all you guys join the forum so that we can all talk to each other! :]

interesteddad you're completely right. if i didn't love the school, i wouldnt have signed a binding agreement with them.

Yeah...as happy as I am to be going to Swat, a part of me will always wonder how big a role the legacy played in getting me in...

Stats? Sure. I honestly think I was a definite reach for them, but I got in, so... :]

Caucasian female (immigrant; bilingual), PA, very competitive inner-city Philadelphia public school that Swat knows (we've sent 2 kids a year lately)

EC's: Debate, Academic Integrity Committee Student Group President, XC/Track, Latin Club/Honor Society, National Honor Society Secretary, Teacher at Synagogue Religious School, Teen member of Synagogue Religious Practices Committee, Freshman Mentor

I had two amazing recommendations from my Calculus teacher and my Latin teacher, both of whom have really motivated me to work, and seen the time and dedication I put into learning.

My two common app essays were average, I would say, but my Why Swarthmore essay was probably the best essay that I wrote for any college. It was risky, but very personal and very coherently interesting. If I had to point to anything, that was it that I believe made the difference.

I GOT IN!!!
I called and the woman wasn't supposed to tell me over the phone so she was like "I think you'll be very happy" and she said no when I asked her if it started with an r and eneded with an ejection letter. So--that means yes, I think? It will be embarrassing if it's not since I've alreaady called everybody, haha.

Stats--uh. 3.62 no rank hardest courses, 1570/2280, 780/750/740, 5's on AP Chem/US. I'm pretty sucky as compared to everybody else posting here. But I'm kinda unique ethnically (though definitely not under-represented) so maybe that kind of counted for something?

SWARTHMORE 2011!!!

stats:
GPA: 4.0 uw, 5.8 w
SAT: 1500, 2160 800 Math II, 780 Chem
ranked 4/450 at a competitive public school
ECs- math team, mu alpha theta co-pres, astronomy club pres, youth in gov't vp, orchestra, swing dancing, tutoring, sunday school co-teacher, a bunch of honor societies and a lot of other stuff

5s on AP world, bio, chem, euro, calc bc
4s on AP eng lang, us

APs this year: eng lit, physics, psych, stat, french, macroeconomics

all other classes (except orchestra) are honors

a fair amount of volunteering, no real work experience

I think that my recommendations were pretty great (I never read them), and my essays were good, if not amazing. Why Swat was quite unique and fun to write, my common app essay was alright.
