Yet another 9th grade course selection question

Maybe the kids will discover linguistic, or anthropology or any number of other disciplines that don’t even exist in high school.

Jonri, Trust me, I am confused too. My question as posed in the first post of this thread has been answered already by several kind posters, that it doesn’t matter if he has 3 credits instead of 4 in either science or social sciences when it comes to college admissions. Since then the discussion has taken an interesting turn, and led to questions that I didn’t even ask, viz.

  1. Is he is taking on too aggressive a load, and should back off?
  2. Is he is slacking too much by taking too easy a load, and should beef it up?
  3. Should he even take Latin and French?
  4. Should he even think of majoring in English and Maths?
  5. Should he take woodworking and ceramics instead of languages?
  6. Should he give up his current music ECs and instead switch to school orchestra?
  7. Is it right for him to take sports waivers for 2 seasons?
  8. Why does he find Biology to be a hard subject when someone else’s kid doesn’t? (This one was special. I guess the answer is that he is not that smart compared to the other kid.) :-))
  9. Should he take Theodore Roosevelt as a role model and strive to do hard things all the time?
  10. Why am I so defensive in answering the above questions, questions that I didn’t ask in the first place?

If CC was a train station, and I came and asked someone this question - that I just bought tickets to City X at the counter, and want to know if this is the right platform for the train that goes to City X - I think I would get a lot of other questions in response:

  1. Why do I want to go to City X?
  2. Why am I taking a train instead of flying, taking the bus, or driving?
  3. Why did I buy the ticket? What happens if I change my mind about going to City X?
  4. Why did I buy the ticket at the counter when there is an app for it?
  5. Shouldn’t I go to City Y instead?
  6. Should I travel in the first place? Why not focus on, say, packing my bag instead?

However, I am thankful that in this virtual train station, there would be a few folks who would let me know if I was in the right platform, just as many did on this thread and let me know that I shouldn’t worry about the course selection and credits. Thank you, folks, who actually stayed on topic and gave me the answer to the question that I asked.

Perhaps the moderators can close this thread now, as I got the answer to my question. Otherwise, please let the debates continue without me.

PS: I had asked some questions on the music forum as well, and people there were incredibly helpful. I wish this thread was like those music forum threads as well.

I would also encourage people to read this book by Bertrand Russell called In Praise of Idleness.
