What's going on at Stanford?

Looks like they want to alert the students to be careful. After all, students at Stanford probably aren't used to worrying about crime, since they are on one of the safest campuses in the nation.
do i really need to post cambridge crime statistics for everyone to see?

and byerly, whats with your obssession with stanford?

Byverly, I use and analyze all of the information you post in the Harvard forums quite often; and I appreciate your work and effort. It has given me an idea of how to shape and change myself for admissions and college life.

However, you don't have to take every negative post towards Harvard personally, and feel that your Harvard honor has been attacked over the internet. There are pros and cons for every university, and it doesn't have to become a knock-down drag-out p*ssing match over the "best" university.

I have never made any such claims, myself, on behalf of Harvard or any other school.

Very simply, what I do is - when anybody blovates on behalf of this school or that - cite the national and international rankings, etc., the "revealed preference" study, and the extant cross-admit data.

I know the victim, who lives a floor below me. I feel a bit safer because they started posting police officers around the residence halls, but just the same I hope they catch these thugs soon.

"when anybody blovates"

Oh no, we have an O'reilly fan in our midst!

O'Reilly is, as he likes to tell people, a "Harvard graduate" - having participated in a program at the Kennedy School and received an MPA degree.

hes not really a harvard graduate?

"Very simply, what I do is - when anybody blovates on behalf of this school or that - cite the national and international rankings, etc., the "revealed preference" study, and the extant cross-admit data."

You forgot to mention that silly article that you've posted about 100 times regarding the "best college town." :)

Two muggings on campus, the first in many a year at Stanford, seem to be a daily occurrence over there in Cambridge.

My d attends Stanford. Personally, I prefer the school making a big deal out of crime, because it sends a message to everyone: it advises the students to be more careful, it advises the parents to check in on their kids and it lets the criminals know that they're beefing up patrols. It's much better than another university that says to check their safety website, they don't know their "crime stats." (And I'm not referring to Cal). Also, for the record, this is the first time in 8 years there's been an armed crime on campus. Pretty good stats, I think.

Yeah, the last robbery was in 1998.

Byerly, do you have anything better to do besides convincing students to go to Harvard over others? Of all the moderators/super-posters, I find you to be the least helpful. Please spend more time in helping us get into universities, not convincing us to attend one university over another.

I have NEVER urged anyone to attend college A over college B, and I think concern over so-called "campus crime" is way overdone.

Since Byerly obviously thinks concern over so called "campus crime" is way overdone, he must have been confused when he started not one but two threads on crime on the respective schools forums (Stanford and Yale). Otherwise one would assume he was trying to alert otherwise unaware inquiring minds to such "way overdone" issues
