yet another chances thread-for an intl

Could someone please evaluate my chances in the view that I'll need financial aid-and quite a bit of it? Thanks :)

SAT: 1600
SAT2: 800 Writing, 800 Physics, 760 Math 2C

GPA: hmmm I dont know. We don't have a 4 point scale but I'm in the top 5% of a class of 144 (school doesnt rank) and got an overall 95% in my Grade 10 Public exams

ECs
Creative Writing-a couple of national awards, plus some state level stuff
Editor of School Magazine
7 years of kathak (a classical Indian dance)
3 years of guitar
4 years of sarod (Indian instrument)
Quizzing-President of the School Quiz Club (I was secretary last year) Our team has won quite a few interschool quizzes in my hometown
Founding member of the school computer club

Thats about it. thanks :)

You are probably going to get in with those stats

yeah but the main thing is I'm asking for aid and Smith isn't need blind for intls :(

And my essay wasn't bad but it was hardly the best i've written. My recs were good though specially the one from my History teacher :D

Where in India, by the way? My d. (Smith '08) and I just returned from Tamil Nadu, where we were doing relief work in and around Nagapattinam. You can read about what we were up to at shantinik.blogspot.com The January 27th Smith Sophian featured an article about her, and she is planning to return this summer to do more work.

Can't answer your question, as I don't really know how they parcel out the aid. Can tell you that Smith puts a very strong emphasis on writing, so you've got that one covered.

I'm in Calcutta but my mother is from Tamil Nadu

My d. is desperate for idlis! (Spoke with her tonight.) Bring your mother's idli-making machine!!! String hoppers (idiappam) too! She'll settle for a decent dosa, and, since you're from Calcutta, won't even sniff at a well-made poori (but she likes rice.)

Two years ago I took some vocal lessons with Amjad Ali Khan (I'm a veena player) - Microsoft sponsored him for several weeks in Seattle.. Would have loved to learn sarod, but I think I'm leaving that one for next lifetime.

I didn't know Amjad Ali Khan gave vocal lessons! One lives and learns :)

anyone else with opinions on my stats?

BUMP!

I think you already know that your numbers (and likely your ECs and your writing) are good enough to go ANYWHERE. There isn't more to be said about them. Each school will have to decide how much financial aid it is providing for international students, and act accordingly. But you already know that you are a very strong candidate, and Smith would be lucky to have you (and you to have them! it is a great place!)

I know. I love Smith :)
