yet another chances thread i guess...

Pretty much all of the schools on my list are long-shots with my fairly weak stats compared to many users on this site, but I'd like to hope that maybe Oxy will take me at least :).

High School: (very prestigious private prep school that was next to impossible)
2.8 UW GPA (meh)
AP's:
English Language: 4
English Literature: 2 =(
Studio Art: 3
SAT: 1740/2400 (I pretty much can't do this test...haha)

Junior Varsity soccer and volleyball all through HS.

lots of community service

travel

CA Community College:
3.42 GPA with 24 units so far
I'm in the process of completing 15 more units which will give me a grand total of 39 units in my first year of CCC.

-Dean's List
- 600+ hours of community service at a nearby clinical laboratory and counting.
- recently traveled to where my family grew up (Armenia, Iran)
- great recommendations from my English professors

The LIST:

Occidental College
USC
University of Washington
Boston University
New York University
Washington University in St. Louis
Emory University

If none of those work out, which they most definitely won't pretty much, then I'm going to try my luck with the UC's next year.

Oh, and I'm an English major.

yeah, looks bleak, no offense. good luck though!

you will definitely get into some good UCs next year if none of these schools turn out.

i guess thats a pretty good list.... don't worry abt the long shots as long as u have back ups like BU & Occidental

No offense...but travelling won't make u an Armenian or Iranian... inspite of your lineage .... you will be considered American by most universities.

You really have to grow up in the environment to be considered Armenian or Iranian

@colegePLEASE: none taken man don't worry haha. i will definitely check out ucsd, ucsb, cal and ucla next year if these don't work out.

@pakiboy: yea i know what you mean. i mean i am armenian, my whole family is, but i've lived here all my life. i just thought i'd list that it was a cool experience going there. and...BU is a backup? really? lol

Here's another question: let's say that I get in to 1 or 2 of these schools. can i defer them till the year after just so I can have UC options as well? Can transfer students defer admission?

bumpity bump bump

Your best chance is at Boston University and Occidental where you are a match, then at University of Washington and USC, where you are a slight reach if you apply to their college of arts and sciences and if you have taken courses on the articulation agreements.

You have next to no chance at the others (all are top 10 colleges where the admit GPAs all need to be around 3.7 or better).

That 3.42 is pretty close to what you need for UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB, and UCSC. It is low for UCB (3.8) and UCLA (3.65).

Best of luck to you.

@Calcruzer: thanks for the wishes man. do you think it's better to wait on UC's or just head to any of the ones on my list (most likely BU and Oxy if those are matches) for sophomore year if i'm accepted this year?

I'm not exactly an optomist, so take me with a grain of salt, but:

Occidental College- Pretty good chance
USC- Reach
University of Washington- Don't know
Boston University- Reach
New York University- Don't know
Washington University in St. Louis- Hail Mary
Emory University- Hail Mary

@Sibelius: See, that's exactly what I was thinking. I hope that at least Oxy takes me because their English program is strong.
