There are those who would argue that the French never really finished conquering Switzerland, (can you name the surrender treaty signed and by whom?) nor brought a complete end to insurrection during the French (and other) occupation of Swiss territory in the early 19th century. </p>
<p>This French conquering of Switzerland could be very easily compared to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, yes where the Soviets installed (not INSTILLED as you would indicate - poor use) a government that basically ran Kabul and maybe a couple of other cities, but the remainder of the country pretty much ran as it always had and still runs to this day despite the US's wishes to have a centralized government.</p>
<p>The French eventually wound up leaving with their tails between their legs (much like the Soviets) and returning (as if they really ever had it) control to the Cantons. </p>
<p>Yes, this did start a turmoil within Switzerland for a number of years, but the Swiss did straighten things out on their own with (relatively speaking) little bloodshed. And yes, their constitution changed.</p>
<p>Heck, our constitution has changed. And, BTW, IIRC before the constitution was ratified, the US was a confederation.</p>
<p>I'll stand by my statement that the Swiss have (in effect) been governing themselves without revolution or complete surrender of government for a long time.</p>

<p>I am in sports, actually. I'm in swimming and soccer. I also ride my bike all the time during the spring and summer, but it's not really a sport since I don't do it competitively.</p>
<p>I'm in clubs, too. All of the one's that are offered at my middle school. I'm on the quiz bowl team (captain) and yearbook club. Those are the only two clubs offered. I've also been in the spelling bee every year. (Top 10 spellers from each grade go to the school-wide one). I came in second place last year at the school-wide geography bee. I love geography. I'm also in band, which is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've been in it since fifth grade.</p>
<p>I'm not in these clubs because it will impress universities, well, prep schools I guess in my case. It's because I love it. I love photography, which is why I'm on the yearbook club. I love learning random facts, geography, and I'm a great speller. I love music, especially jazz, which is why I play the saxophone.</p>

<p>I was in the school league, but that got over with in November. I was also in travel soccer last year. I might try out again in June. I was also on a travel basketball team in sixth grade. (AAU) I miss basketball.</p>
<p>AP Latin isn't hard at all, I have a 97 average for now. We just finished Amores.</p>
