Yet another chances...

Hey everyone,
I applied ED to Amherst, but I just discovered Vassar, and really love it. It looks like a great school, so....

White

SAT's:

EC's:

President of Debate Team (Organized several inter-school debates)

President of Model Congress

General Editor of Literary Arts Magazine

Vice President of Foreign Language Club

DECA-I am founder of the marketing club, started a cafe that donates all profits to charity, and organized several other fundraisers for African orphans and cancer patients. I also won several awards at both the regional and state level

Very involved with my church-100+ hrs of running my food pantry, Youth Group, Senior Handbell choir, Board of Deacons, Recording Secretary

Peers As Leaders--a selective group of 30 seniors. I also do peer tutoring, peer mentoring, and peer mediating through this organization.

National Honor Society

French Honor Society

(I have a few other clubs, but these are my main ones)

So...What do you guys think?

If you don't get into Amherst, apply Vassar ED2.

I think that I might do that, but does your answer imply that I'm not a strong enough candidate to get in on regular decision?

I think your chances at Vassar would be very good. It is hard to predict what sort of individuals a school is looking for in a given year but your record is great except for the low Math Score which your other scores and High Class rank should overcome. If you are shooting for perfection you might consider trying another Math or Science SAT II if there are any that you think you could do very well in. I hope your first quarter and semester grades continue your great record, especially the Calc grade.

Your post doesn't indicate if you are Male or Female. Vassar's standards for Males are slightly lower, as are many of its peers.

If you don't get into Amherst ED I , then if Vassar is your clear number 2 and you are willing to "give up" on Amherst then clearly you may have a bit of an edge trying ED II at Vassar.

Good luck

Sorry, for not mentioning it. Yes, I am a male. MY first marking period grades are great with the exception of having a C in calculus. However, this should go up to a B by mid-year. My mid-year grades should then be straight A+'s or A's except for calc.

I think you have good chances for Vassar, as guys are always given a slight edge in the admissions process and your stats are already quite impressive.

Make sure that in your app/essay that you make clear what your passions are. All top LACs (Vassar especially) like to see DEDICATION to a passion or interest; not a laundary list of ECs. JUst a word of advice.

Good luck! I applied EDI and will hear back late this week...

My answer did NOT imply you weren't strong enough for RD...If you believe your grades are going to get stronger than you should apply RD so that your stronger grades will be evident when they review your application.

Thanks, NativeNJ, I just didn't want to misinterpret your post.

Sorry to keep bothering you helpful Vassar kids, but I've heard that "they want a passion, not a long list of EC's" many times before. In light of this, should I just list these primary activities, delve into what I do in the essay, and then not list all of my other activities that I am slightly less active in? I mean the Common Application only has 7 activity slots...

^Yes, totally. Show Vassar the things you have been committed and interested in. Not the myriad of things you've done.
