Which of the eating clubs has the best food and events (houseparties etc)?

I recognise that there are other, perhaps more important, concerns (atmosphere, people etc.), but though I'd ask.

Cheers,
Jolyon

These are just my opinions

Best food: Charter
Best service: Ivy
Most live bands: Terrace
Best clubhouse: Cottage
Most lively parties: Tiger Inn
Most freshman-friendly: Quad

Thanks - that was just what I'd hoped for, if ony in demonstrating that all (or at least most) of the clubs have their own forte.

Cheers,
Jo

In my opinion, Cottage has the best house and food. It also has the best parties, although a lively night at TI is certainly up there.

Colonial and Charter also have really beautiful buildings. And the food at Charter and Colonial is very good - Ivy is on and off; they have a mixture of very good and just so-so meals.

But in terms of friendliness and ease to get in (especially as an underclassman), I would say the sign ins, or maybe Tower or Cap for the bicker clubs.

That being said, I've only eaten at some of the eating clubs a few times so take my sample size results with a grain of salt.

"Most freshman-friendly: Quad"

Seriously? Quad is the den of debauchery.
Alright, maybe not that bad, but truth be told, it's not the best place to be hanging out as a freshman.

Unfortunately, you'll find that the eating clubs are largely clique based. For example, if you're Asian on campus, you're either in Colonial or you know someone in Colonial. You can try to get into any club you want, nothing's stopping you, but the pressure/bias is there.

Though to answer your question, the stuffed chicken fillet at Charter was lovely.

^ A den of debauchery sounds like the place I want to be as a Freshman ;)

@adanpry: I would have to disagree wholeheartedly with you. If you said to me "Name an eating club that is a den of debauchery," I would say either Terrace or TI, depending on what type of debauchery you're thinking of. Quad is like the safe place that is always full of freshmen. Y'know how you can tell Quad is a safe place? 'Cause the University chooses them for the biggest Alcohol Initiative (read: dry) event of the year.

I can't comment on food or service, but I would agree with this for the most part. I am personally a huge fan of Terrace, because there are lots of rooms where you an just sit and talk to people, and they have good bands you can listen to on a semi-regular basis. Then again, I also don't mind marijuana and I can imagine people who have a problem with it wouldn't enjoy Terrace much. I also think Cap is the most diverse eating club, and it's pretty fun.

Also, Quad is extremely freshman-friendly (always open to freshmen). The place is filled with freshmen. I tend to avoid the place.

along the lines of Asian=Colonial...I know the clubs don't discriminate, etc. but do people perhaps TEND to congregate along racial or religious lines...not that its intentional, etc. but just like in real country clubs where protestants, catholics, jews each tend to have separate country clubs in the same area in NJ...does this happen in the eating clubs?

It's more clique related than race-related. At least in my opinion.
It just seems like there are a few really strong asian cliques on campus, especially among those who are asian international students.

It's also pretty obvious that sports teams tend to stick together. Cross country seems to like Cap&Gown, girls' soccer seems to like Cottage, Waterpolo guys like T.I.

More than religion, I feel that those who are conservative (including religious conservatives) tend to like Charter. Though a lot of politically-minded individuals seem to like Tower.

Ivy is the beacon of "St. Anthony's Hall" members.

These are the basic trends that I've noticed.

This is the way it is:

Best food: Charter or Cottage
Worst food: Usually T.I. (from what I have experienced)
Nicest clubhouse: Cottage
Worst maintained clubhouse: Terrace (but it is also the closest to campus so that is convenient)
Most lively parties: T.I. (because it is open very late and is usually full of people). Terrace is a good place to end the night.
Most substance consumed per capita: Terrace (marijuana and other drugs) T.I and cloister (alcohol)
Least substance consumed per capita: Colonial or Quad
Most freshman-friendly: Probably Quad

Athletic affiliations (generally speaking!):
Football, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse: Cottage
Wrestling, water polo: T.I.
Swimming, crew: Cloister
Track, softball: Cap (other sports too, but I am not very familiar with this club).

Greek affiliations:
SAE: Ivy, T.I,
Zete: Primarily Ivy
KA: Cottage
Other fraternities: no one really cares.
Pi Phi: Ivy and TI
Theta: Cottage
Kappa: Cap
There are only three sororities

Stereotypes (usually not accurate, but still..):
Terrace: hippies, lots of foreigners from my experience.
Tower: Woody Woo majors, Jewish people
Quad: randos
Colonial: Asians
Ivy: Northeastern elites
Cottage: Southern elites
T.I.: hard drinkers
Cap: basically people in good shape who aren't necessarily athletes
Cloister: swimmers and rowers (floaters and boaters)
Charter: engineers

I think that pretty much covers the basics.

Thanks again for all your help - more fuel for my Princeton fantasies. Anyway, if I should manage to get in (I think a computer error might be my best chance ) I know where they all fit in.

Cheers,
Jo
