Thanks for any replies, I'm just so anxious about the whole admissions process. I know I could do well at any college, but I'd really like to see where you all think my stats could get me.

You should probably add some schools near NYC if you want to work in International affairs. I see you have two in DC which is another great place to score such internships, but none in NY. I'd suggest Columbia, Rutgers, NYU Stern, and maybe Vassar.

Perfect GPA, Valedictorian, solid SAT score (I wouldn't turn in that ACT score), decent ECs = in at everywhere you posted

By the way if you're female you could consider Barnard too, I just assumed from your name that you were a guy.

very very good list of colleges. you seem more realistic than 95% of the folks asking for chances here

accept at all

It seems like you're either applying to SFS (Int'l Rel) or MSB (IB), I say (I got into MSB this year) you have a good shot at MSB and a decent shot at SFS... I only say this because I personally don't think SFS is harder to get into by much, but the SFS kids all claim to be self-selecting... w/e the stats show that SFS is perhaps higher in stats by 100 pts on the SATs...

Your EC's are great, what are you talking about!

You have a good list for you.

I was thinking about New York Colleges, especially because the UN is based there. However, NYU gives out like no fin. aid and I didn't think I had a shot at Columbia at all.

Do I have a shot at Vassar? Also, what about American U, USC, and possibly Williams or Hamilton?

I'm a guy, otherwise I would probably look at Barnard and Wellesly.

I'd strongly consider Columbia then, because you certainly have a shot. As good a one as anyone can have. They also meet full aid for students, so that's an option. Vassar is a match for you, so I would suggest visiting to see if you like it and applying there. It's not directly in the city though, but it's a very strong school.

American U shouldn't be that hard for you to get into, USC might be hard simply because you're going to be OOS. Williams and Hamilton are LACs though, which I'm not sure if you want for IB. And they're also not placed in an international city.

reject or waitlist: Georgetown
sketchy: chicago

retake your act or don't send your score to georgetown and chicago

I know my ACT isn't the best it can be; I thought it was originally because it's 97th percentile, but then again I'll be competing against those other top 3%. Seven kids from my high school are Georgetown '11 and I have better grades/scores/rank than they do.
What are some other semi-prestigious schools that have good IR and IB programs at which I have a chance?
Also, does anyone know how selective UBC admissions are for international students like me?

canadian schools are a joke, don't worry

actually, I think you'll have a shot at georgetown... people here sometimes underestimate anyway

Great GPA. Good SATs. I think your ECs are fine. I think you'll get accepted at all those schools, but Georgetown and UChi are a bit shaky. If you're thinking about IR, then why not consider Tufts? It has an excellent IR program.

I would say BC is more of a match for you.

Warning though: BC is, from what I can tell, an extremely waspy New England school.

Hmm...UBC..?????
Now, that was just..EH?

BTW You're good to go XD
Georgetown would be high-match for you.
Have you considered JHU for IR?

You look great.

Haha, thanks for the heads up about BC. I can handle waspy; I'm Presbyterian. I've heard Johns Hopkins has a good IR program, I just didn't know whether or not I would have a chance there, either.
Any other selective colleges with IR programs?

What I'm trying to do is look for colleges based on what they have to offer, not based on prestige like SO MANY other chancees do (the whole HYPS bunch appears on so many "reach" lists). I care about the IR program more than anything else. Thanks for your help.

Best IR: Tufts, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Columbia

Could I get into USC? Possibly Carleton? Also, I know it would be a SUPER big reach, but what would my chances be at Penn?

Let’s bring back this throwback thread…

So, I’ve changed around my list of colleges to which I’m applying, and any new feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know it looks like I’m applying to a lot of schools that are really similar to one another, but I know what I want (residential campus, liberal-artsy, Northeast setting) and I need financial aid, so it’s almost like buying twelve lottery tickets instead of five.
Here goes:

Georgetown (applied EA for SFS)
Dartmouth
Bowdoin
Vassar
Hamilton
Tufts
Colgate
Middlebury
Dickinson
Macalester
UBC
U St. Andrews
U Edinburgh
