sorry i know you've seen a trazillion of these but any feedback for my friend would be very apreciated. she's like the typical nerdy asian :p

Personal:
Location (State or Country): California
Ethnicity & Gender: Korean girl
Major strength: Math, cello. and she's really smart so her teachers all love her.
Major weakness: her school is super-overachieving and her stats are far from unheard of there. also she aims high (ivys, stanford, etc) and wants to major in Pre-Med. not URM, no legacy, etc.

wow thank you for reading that! i nkow she will appreciate any advice.

10% chance at HYPSM. Over-represented state, over-represented ethnicity, average stats (at those schools). She's in the pool with 20,000 other applicants. Go for it, but find some match/safety schools as well.

she got a 4.5 with only 6 AP's....that means she only took a total of 12 courses by the end of her junior year.

12/3 = 4 courses a year?

thanks for the feedback!
i don't get the 12 classes thing. the GPA is university GPA and i think she had honor classes too

But honors classes usually don't give you a boosted GPA. The only way to get a 4.5 is to take the same number of AP courses as regular courses

Honors gives us weighted, but only like .047 of a point per class. AP is double that.

honors in our district is weighted 5.0

so what could she have done that would've helped? what can she still do.

The only things that can distinguish her are the essays and recommendations

Um... qualifying for the USAMO counts for a lot... (and being a girl qualifier is incredibly rare.) This basically puts her easiliy with the top 30 or so girls at math in the nation, and that's something top colleges look for. I give her 50% chances.
