I'm 1/8th mexican, but I've always indicated myself as white just out of convenience. However, I've been acutely aware of my cultural heritage (for example, my dad lived in a Mexican dorm his freshman year at Stanford, and I was almost named Carlos), but I've never really been compelled to put that I'm Hispanic since most documents just allow you to put one race.

But since the common app allows you to put any and all races that apply, I've decided to put white/caucasian and mexican-american as races I identify with...would this be to my disadvantage because I don't necessarily "look" mexican (black hair and green eyes, but a somewhat pale complexion) even though I could easily claim my heritage?

Plus, I don't think Stanford will look at it negatively, since, as stated above, my dad lived with Mexicans during his freshman year (I'm even incorporating some of these stories into my "Why Stanford" essay). But again, I still appreciate any opinions on the situation, contrary to my situation or otherwise

Thanks :D
