Yet Another Question

Parent of an incoming freshman (still). This question may be from out of left field, but here goes anyway. For current or recent students:

What about a small safe for my son's dorm room? He would use it for his passport, extra checks, etc., plus he could put his laptop in it if he were going to be away all day or for a weekend. It could/would be unobtrusive. Maybe on a closet shelf, cable locked to the hanger bar. But he thinks it's 'weird', and is worried that he'll be the only kid in the dorm with a safe.

Any thoughts/feedback here?
Thanks.

Safes are available thru College Concepts . Check the packet that has laundry service and microfridge information. I think it a good idea. (Parent)

Thanks.
We looked at the one in College Concepts. We found similar options on Amazon (Prime) for under $100. If we get one, which I think is likely, we’ll go that route.

I wouldn’t worry about getting a safe, especially if your son and maybe his roommate keep the door locked when nobody’s in the room. Thefts are rare (except maybe on move-out day); somebody on my floor last year left his laptop and iPod speakers out in the open all the time (including at night), and it took nearly 2 semesters for anything to get stolen.
