Hey everyone, so just like everyone else, i'm 1 week before the test (Well most of you are 6 days, all praise sunday testing an extra day to be anxious lol :P) and I need an essay scoring.
My essay is pretty much based on the build of Academic Hacker and uses the intro paragraph by biofreak21
Topic: Is the way something seems to be not always the same as it actually is?

Essay: (Written in 25 minutes from the second I saw the topic, about 460 words, 2 full pages).

The premise that the way something seems to be in not always the same as it actually is, is an unequivocal truth. Although some people uphold the view that what we see is what we get, these people are too parochial in their perspective. Often things are different beneath the surface. People act for other reasons than they seem and disasters might be more catastrophic than we think. Through examples in film , science and literature one can see the truth behind this assertion.

One paragon that examplifies this topic is in the 2008 Iron Man film by Sam Raimie. In the film Tony Stark, a weapons inventor and manufacturer goes to Iraq to see how his weapons perform. While he's in Iraq, Stark gets captivated by terrorists that demand that he produce weapons of mass destruction for them. Instead, Stark builds the IronMan suit, an indestructible piece of armour, and single handadly destroys the terrorists. After stark comes back to America he decides to use his new found knowledge to help the greater good, and instead of making more money, he saves lives. Eventhough every one thought Stark to be a greedy person, they found out he cares of the man kind and fount out every one was wrong about him.

Another instance illustrating this feat is the Columbia Space shuttle diesaster. Soon after the shuttle took off, a piece of foam, 2cm wide, detatched from the shuttle's fuel tank and hit the left wing. No one thought much of the incident and assumed no harm was done considering the shuttle got out of the atmosphere safely. However, the engineers at NASA were awfully wrong and when the shuttle came back to Earth they found out that this tiny foam had damaged the shuttle's protective heat shield .The shuttle now was a ball of fire flying above earth and killing every one on board. Even though this tiny incident seemed to be insignificant the opposite was true.

One last example that demonstrates this idea is the nove The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. In the novel, the protogonist, Gatsby, seems to be a happy wealthy man that throws huge parties in the facade of his mansion and owns a plethora of expensive cars. However, the opposite is true, Gatsby is actually empty in the inside and all he really wants is to win Daisey's love and lure her into his house. Except for Garsby no one actually sees what he feels from the inside and one may think he's a happy man.

In summation, after a careful analysis of the fil Iron man, the Columbia diesaster and the novel The Great Gatsby, one can see that what one sees is , indeed , not what one gets. People should always be careful not to jump into conclusions and assumptions about others because those are often wrong.

Thanks in advance :)
