Jr. D has taken 3 times. 1x sophmore yr = 29; 2x Jr. year = 30 & 32.
last time she had
32C.
33E
34M
33S
27 R. (lowest out of all 3 times)
she prepped hard for it - do kids keep raising their scores, or do they peak at some point? what have others seen as they keep taking it?
(fyi: she’s going for merit awards at midwestern schools that most-likely offer architecture . . .)
would like to know what others have seen with taking it multiple times. . . .
Depends where D is applying: if she’s well above her potential colleges’ medians, she’ll be fine. If she’s shooting more for Northwestern / Ivy etc, I’d give it another go to be more competitive. I’ve seen kids improve by as much as 10 composite points, but by test #4 or so, most people plateau. One more try should show some improvement, but past that, idk if there’s much more she can do. Try SAT as well? The two are quite different.
Just like @ivyhopes mentioned, try both the ACT and SAT. I prepared for the SAT for months and got a 2130, then I decided to try the ACT. I prepared for 2 weeks and got a 34. You never know how you’ll do if you don’t try.
With hard work yeah. When you are near to the 32+ you will need to put more hard work and learn in what she is failing. She must look the schools that she will like to attend. As the above post, has she tried the SAT?
Maybe she will do better on the SAT.
I’d keep trying and maybe the SAT’s also. My theory was that it’s going to cost maybe $50 and 3 hours of her life. If her scores increase more doors, merit money or honors programs MAY open up. With the cost of college, it’s a small investment and look at how much your D’s scores have already increased each time.
I can’t remember my daughter’s first two scores in English (I think maybe a 30? 32?), but the last exam- fall of senior year it bumped to a 35 and her SAT’s went up significantly also. Maybe because she practiced a bit over the summer? Or maybe because she got used to the format?
